to think grown women, anyone over the age of about 16 actually, expressing lustful thoughts for actors/celebrities or men in the public eye, are just ridiculous?

How can you fancy someone you have never even met?

Surely that is the realm of tweenagers, teenagers or stalkers!

I do find it very hard to stomach when supposedly intelligent adult women go all silly over some sleb or other, whether its Jeremy Paxman or Michael Buble or Robert Pattinson or Brian Cox ... or whoever.

no linkie

I don't go by looks alone. As others have said its about a man who doesn't exist.

my own Mantasy includes

Stewart Lee for wit
Donald Sutherland voice
for example

Goblinchild · 31/08/2010 21:28

YABU, but I do draw the line at boys that are practically the same age as my daughter.
That feels very weird and creepy to me.Grin

lilyliz · 31/08/2010 21:29

Yes YABU whats wrong with fancying someone we may never meet.O k I don't shout in the street I love Keanu Reeves but between pals we have a great time talking about our dream man.

nameymcnamechange · 31/08/2010 21:31

Oh - don't know what went wrong there.

Anyway, it was Harry Hill! Blush.

i fancy noel fielding even though i don't really like the way he looks
it's more his mannerisms, and the fact that he is very funny

Minxie1977 · 31/08/2010 21:50

Yes YABU - sometimes I have lusty thoughts about random men - if I get to speak to them it's a chuffing let down as they are not the witty wonder god I fantasised about. I'm all about physical attraction though [shallow]

lowenergylightbulb · 31/08/2010 21:54

I had the most filthy dream about Robert Pattinson last night. He came to my school on work experience for a film and I copped off with him.

However, at the crucial moment he turned into Jedward, at which point (thankfully) I woke up...

However, I have been having 'thoughts' all day about RP.

YABU OP Smile

Think I'd feel awful fancying someone for their personality - it'd feel like cheating IYKWIM!

nameymcnamechange · 31/08/2010 22:08

Roffle Minxie - I see what you mean.

CatIsSleepy · 01/09/2010 10:38

have to admit i don't understand the robert pattinson thing at all!

puddlepuss · 01/09/2010 12:07

Snorky - Stewart Lee - phhwwoooaarrrr!!

I got together with dh based purely on his looks. Turns out he's quite nice aswell which was a bit of luck but if I hadn't fancied him straight off he would have just been another punter buying a beer on my first night working in the pub. And he openly admits he went for me because I had a 'great rack'.

When I 'fancy' a sleb it's based on their looks and then I make up what they're like to suit.

gtamom · 01/09/2010 13:31

Do you think fan clubs are like that? Only actors or anyone famous?

FortunateHamster · 01/09/2010 13:38

YABU. I used to have a list! (In Friends Ross had a list of celebs he could sleep with. He took someone off it and then met them or something like that)

Of course I wouldn't actually ever act on my filthy lustful thoughts, but I don't think there's anything wrong with watching Supernatural and thinking that Dean/Jensen Ackles would look mighty fine without his clothes :D

(Mind you Supernatural is not necessarily the best example as it does have its nuttier section of fandom that is quite upset that JA is engaged now)

It doesn't mean I don't fancy my husband or think I'd ever have a chance with the celeb in question, it's just a bit of fun, and quite innocent precisely because it's never going to happen.

And yes, it's got to be based mostly on looks I suppose, or whatever quirks can come across in their chosen mode of work/interviews, but if it's fantasy, who cares? I never fancied James Marsters (Spike, Buffy) until I had a filthy dream about him in character. It was difficult to view him in quite the same way after that! (Don't fancy him now, it was mostly a character thing in that case)

prettyfly1 · 01/09/2010 14:49

Oh that guy on the great british bake off is lush. Sod off - my man crushes get me through the day dammit and noone is taking them from me.

BettySuarez · 01/09/2010 14:55

You are being very unreasonable, so get to the back of the queue for:

  1. Alexander Armstrong
  2. Jonty Bankes
  3. Brian Cox

NetworkGuy · 01/09/2010 16:07

lol SalFresco - cannot say I even know what those particular fantasy lovers look like (tend to only concentrate on the female stars, myself), but good to see the massive number of others who have no qualms about admitting they fancy different 'stars' [to varying degrees].

I can think of far too many to list (many from TV shows, from current day NCIS/ CSI to sci-fi like '7 of 9' and so on from Star Trek etc, plus unnamed dancers from Pan's People, and pop videos [aaaargh, just remembered one on 4Music which was criticised here on MN as being too 'naughty' but cannot find it now!], but also going back as far as Victoria Principal in Dallas [when I was in my teens and she was late 20s]!).

Sure, the stars are all 'impossible dreams' but there are just as many attractive women out and about in town to consider, and some of those could well be 'available' :)

Squitten · 01/09/2010 16:42

FortunateHamster - I am also heavily in lust with Jensen Ackles. Me and DH both have very healthy crushes on various celebs.

Oh, and both the Supernatural boys are married now to ridiculously gorgeous women Smile

ShowOfHands · 01/09/2010 21:18

Jensen Ackles? Crazy.

Have you seen Misha Collins?

Morloth · 01/09/2010 21:23

I like Jenson Ackles as well but mostly like Dean the character.

Such a simple boy, no need to waste time talking their either. Grin

Daniel Jackson is another one (Stargate), Michael Shanks the actor is OK, but it is the character I like.

Morloth · 01/09/2010 21:24

there not their obviously...

ShowOfHands · 01/09/2010 21:31

Oh Dean. Yes. You know exactly what you're getting. But still a wee chink of vulnerability. Which is nice.

Might watch some SPN now...

Squitten · 01/09/2010 21:32

Agreed Morloth - talking would not be at the forefront of my mind there.... Grin
