YANBU to do Christmas shopping whenever you like.

YABU to talk about Christmas in August IMHO.

Early? We started buying DD's presents before she was born Blush

Honeydragon · 31/08/2010 16:46

It's never too early imo.
And I think it is ok to talk about it in August, nice christmas's don't happen by magic.

I work in the credit side of finance and my biggest issue is when people call to say they cannot manage their nov/dec/ payments - when I ask why they say
"don't you know its Christmas" in a incredulous voice.

They don't like it when I point out it comes every year so it's not exactly a surprise Hmm.
Heartless but fair I feel.

Shodan · 31/08/2010 16:46

I started today.

I bought a tin each of Quality Street and Roses on BOGOF at Tesco's.

However, based on past form, they will likely be replaced half a dozen times before Christmas. Blush

Megatron · 31/08/2010 16:47

YANBU. I'm behind this year, I've usually got LOADS by now. Smile

nameymcnamechange · 31/08/2010 16:48

Please can threads about Christmas go in the Christmas topic.

gegs73 · 31/08/2010 16:50

YA def NBU! I had a conversation with DH only yesterday about how it was nearly Xmas and we needed to start doing some shopping to spread it out. God I sounds old!!! Grin

Honeydragon · 31/08/2010 16:53

nameymcnamechange

but that exacting rule would mean that the "should I hide the feminism topic" thread should go in the feminism thread where the op would not be able to find it if she has hidden it Grin

nameymcnamechange · 31/08/2010 16:55

Erm, no it wouldn't.

I might start an aibu:

AIBU to hide the Christmas Topic?

Infact, I know I am not bu, as I hide it until mid-November every year. Which is when sane people start thinking about Christmas Grin.

nattiecake · 31/08/2010 16:57

Flisspaps, I bought baba a christmas present the other day, and he isnt born yet! Grin

notso · 31/08/2010 17:00

YANBU I am due DC3 on 23rd Dec, started mine in July.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 31/08/2010 17:02

What a brilliant idea. I have no money now or likely over the next few months but will be picking up bits as i see them to avoid a panic and an eek no money situation on Dec 23rd.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 31/08/2010 17:04

is there a christmas topic... where?

scrappydappydoo · 31/08/2010 17:15

YANBU - I tend to pick things up throughout the year but its more of a xmas/b'day/party gifts type thing that is used throughout the year.
Although I'm being scuppered on all sides this year as:

  • my family wants to do a secret santa pressie swap and I don't know who my person is until November..
  • dhs family issue lists of pressie wants ideas and they don't get released until November
Also I'm holding fire on buying dd1's 'big' pressie as she is starting school and I think this is going to majorly influence her xmas wish list Hmm
nameymcnamechange · 31/08/2010 17:28

here is the Christmas Topic.

I believe you find it in the Fun And Games section.

AlgebraRocksMySocks · 31/08/2010 17:34

I have finalised our list for DD and DS and will buy it gradually, depending on when offers are on.

so YANBU :)

lazarusb · 31/08/2010 19:02

I put a standing order into a separate account every month for Christmas to avoid that end of year penny counting. I start buying as soon as I see things I like :)

pinkthechaffinch · 31/08/2010 19:20

yanbu,

i've started buying and saving, and today i've invited my parents and pil to ours for xmas day Smile

moominmarvellous · 31/08/2010 19:27

Lazarusb, that is very organised, I like that idea!

YANBU, I started last week.

Desperatelyseekinginspiration · 31/08/2010 19:30

Nope, just bought my first one today. I reckon if I do 2/3 each month, I won't feel the pain to my bank account, feet or sanity.

kittywise · 31/08/2010 19:31

I have started and feel ashamed, but as someone said, nice christmases don't happen by themselves

RandomWomble · 31/08/2010 19:33

YANBU

I have brought some already. I am not particually keen on christmas and I cannot stand to shop in novemeber or december so I get them done early. I hate busy shops, even more so when they are playing the same christmas song everywhere you go. yes I am a bar humbug sort lol.

domesticdiva · 31/08/2010 19:43

YANBU!!

I'm 32 weeks pregnant and had a panic today that in the run up to Christmas I'll have a tiny baby and a bonkers DS1 to contend with, so have no idea when I'll get mine done.

Any one want to do mine for me? Just need an assortment of socks/smellies from boots/slippers/pajamas/random shite to produce the medioca responce from recipients as per every year regardless of how much effort is put in!! (Made my own hampers one year including jam/chutneys etc and still got the "Oh great, jam,err thanks I was looking forward to some socks/smellies from boots/slippers/pajamas/random shite" Still smarting from that one still!!!! Angry Grin

horatia · 31/08/2010 19:44

YABU. The shops don't need any more encouragement (i.e. extra sales at this time of year) to bring Christmas displays out earlier and earlier.......
