To think bank holidays are a bit of a waste of time?

Always end up doing loads of jobs but feeling I should be lazing around.

Oh and having a row with DH. Anyone else fall out today?

Nope, we had a loverly time - a party here, lots of food, feral kids and chatter for the afternoon.

All were local so nobody had to sit in a traffic jam to get here or home.

BTW bank holidays like this are an English thing - they don't have them in Scotland. Only Banks are on holiday on Bank Holidays iyswim.

We all went to my uncle's house today and had a lovely BBQ in the sunshine. DS got to spend some time with his cousins and was so worn out that he went to bed half an hour earlier than normal and fell asleep straight away!

we had no arguments here either.

Although there is nothing you can do on a bank holiday that you can't do on a weekend, so I don't think we need them either.

And people seem to go a bit nuts on a bank holiday have you seen the traffic?

It's like... it's a Bank Holiday. We must DO SOMETHING.

Usually we go see family so it was lovely not driving somewhere

but often dh wants to diy and I'm stuck entertaining the kids

the end of august always has a bit of a sad, aimless feel to it

I prefer the get up and go atmosphere of tomo, 1st sept and nearly start of a new school year

This one was. Usually they're great, but my whole household spent the weekend nursing stinking colds.
Back to work this morning and I've lost my voice. Actually maybe that's a good thing. No one can speak to me.

It was wonderful, I didn't have to go to work. Think about those who don't love their jobs please!

everywhere is crowded and expensive or you feel like a failure for not being invited out to someone's smeggy bbq in the wind and rain. Would rather have x amount extra days off work to take when I wanted to.

No we had a good day and it extended my leave and makes this working week a bit shorter with full pay which isn't a bad thing.

I always try to take my leave when there are Bank Holidays especially at Easter!

We had a really nice one. Non-descript but we ended up somewhere in the car we just found a bit by accident. Nice for DH as he is self-employed and doesn't often allow himself proper holiday time - so bank holiday is sort of enforced on him. All chores done by saturday lunchtime.

I love Bank Holidays, not least because I live in Scotland but work for an English company, so the DCs are still at school/nursery on some of them (including yesterday). DH takes a day off and we stayin bed do nice things, go out for lunch and have some quality time

Love b/hols. yesterday dh was very poorly, recovering from daignosed food poisoning. but was still nice.

Trouble is, every other bugger drives to where we live for a day out, so you cant get anywhere....

YABU! And I am the opposite of you - spend the time enjoying myself and then feel just a bit not very much guilty for not catching up on the jobs.

We went out to a nice quiet bit of countryside and had a cook out. Yummy - there were a few walkers pass by but it was fairly far from the madding crowd.

what is wrong with an extra occaisional day off work and the chance to extend the weeekend to 3 days so that you can actually relax for once rather than just get into it and it be time for work again? Do you usually work full time OP? I am on maternity leave and waiting for babba to arrive so my bank hol felt like a waste but I still tried to observe that its a luxury for DH that he badly deserves.

I always think its a shame at the end of Aug that its suuuch a long time to the next bank hol (Xmas) - rubbish!!

I do the opposite; I do no houseowrk and jobs on a day off work!
