ffs. some women are small because thats the way they are, some women are small because they dont eat enough. some women are big because thats the way they are, some women are big because they eat too much.

bullying is bullying, whether its because of the colour of your skin or your hair, because you are over or underweight. what gives other people the right to pick on others? hating other people because of the way you look wont make you like yourself more.

ive been a variety of sizes and men have found me attractive, but tbh i couldnt really give a flying fuck. im no more real or better than the next woman, and i pity those who feel the need to put others down. its not a pretty trait.

well said - why are people soooooo obsessed?

AllarmBells · 30/08/2010 22:56

Hooray! YANBU!!!

gigglewitch · 30/08/2010 22:57

good on ya TLOTGK.

Actually it's not us, it's the bloody media!!

nowherewoman · 30/08/2010 23:01

Quite right. As someone said on the other thread, it's a case of divide and rule, and we let the media do it to us. Just think how powerful women would be if we weren't caught up with feeling like we're not good enough because we've not got the "right" body size.

emmyloulou · 30/08/2010 23:03

It's the media dividing and it's allowed to happen YANBU.

You only have to see the comments on press articles women joining in the slating of another woman on an off day etc, to see it, it's sad.

TheLadyOfTheGreenKirtle · 30/08/2010 23:04

it makes me very cross indeed.

i was bullied mercilessly at school for being poor, skinny and a redhead, didnt have it any better or worse than my wealthy, overweight, redheaded best friend. same problem, different words. NONE of it is acceptable, yet here I am, 20 years on and the same words are ebing flung about by people who really should know better.

none of us has the right to judge or tease another person.

OP posts:
weirdbird · 30/08/2010 23:18

Well said, it makes me very sad how many women seem to take great pleasure in tearing into how other women look, and how the media spends all its time focusing on how we look and rarely on anything else.

Newsflash women come in all shapes and sizes just like men!

ChippingIn · 30/08/2010 23:29

I think I luff you :)

MrsMadWriggle · 31/08/2010 00:04

YANBU - you speak sense - getting fed up with all the sizeist threads.

Rosieeo · 31/08/2010 00:30

Grin Hear hear!

BuntyPenfold · 31/08/2010 00:33

YANBU
And red hair is so beautiful.

anyabanya · 31/08/2010 00:43

Amen Sister!

I was bullied terribly at school for being plump. I have never really gotten over it, despite hitting 40 now, and I struggle nwith my weight and self loathing every day of my life.

I am envious of slimmer women, for sure, but I do not 'hate' them or ridicule them, amy more than I would hate or ridicule women who are larger than me. I think it is media divide and rule.

anyabanya · 31/08/2010 00:45

Oh... and I love red hair so much that I dye mine red. :) VERY envious of anyone with red hair.

SgtAngua · 31/08/2010 01:07

Well said!

TheLadyOfTheGreenKirtle · 31/08/2010 09:42

thank you all. i was ranting thinking about this lasy night, and the medja certainly doesnt help, showing pics of kerry katona with her junk food and headlines like "kezza piles on the weight... AGAIN" alongside cheryl cole at an airport, headlines "Chezza frail and ill and alone" but WE buy into it, and we use it as justification to slate others.

OP posts:
TheLadyOfTheGreenKirtle · 31/08/2010 09:54

oh and saying "so its acceptable to say A, but not to say B" is wrong. its not acceptable to say either.

OP posts:
mayorquimby · 31/08/2010 09:56

don't agree with the media point. Surely it's our cosumer habits which drive the media. Publications and advertisers print what works and what we respond to in monetary terms.

DDDixon · 31/08/2010 09:58

"A starving population is a tractable one" - Naomi Wolf

The obsession with weight and size keeps us in our place. Originally it kept women in their place, but now men are being subjected to similar crapola and it just makes us all a lot less happy and therefore easier to sell stuff to.

Argh it's so depressing! and don't get me started on red hairism!

TheLadyOfTheGreenKirtle · 31/08/2010 10:01

sorry, mayorquimby, that was the point i was making in my head last night and it didnt translate v well Grin the media responds to us, if we stopped buying it for "jen's new kelp and milk diet" or "shocking pics of nadines weight loss/gain" they would stop printing it.

its all crap!

OP posts:
mayorquimby · 31/08/2010 10:08

yeah I'd agree with you there. I was more responding to some of the posts earler on along the lines of
"Actually it's not us, it's the bloody media!!"
and it just reminded me of that Chris Rock line regarding crimes in ghettos and saying
"oh I can hear you all now. It's not us it's the media. well let me tell you something when I got to the ATM at night I'm not looking over my shoulder for the media."

ccpccp · 31/08/2010 10:12

As a society, we must view fat as bad, and equally overly thin as bad. Neither are acceptable from a health point of view.

Individually - do your own thing. Just dont expect any sympathy if the fungal cream under your folds is itching.

TheLadyOfTheGreenKirtle · 31/08/2010 10:16

ccp, Biscuit dont turn this into another size-bshing thread please.

OP posts:
NotFromConcentrate · 31/08/2010 10:16

YANBU.

Women seem to be constantly encouraged to judge one another, 'tis all very unsisterly Grin

ccpccp - I have neither folds nor a requirement for fungal cream (despite being a chubby Wink ) but thanks for your concern Hmm

Minxie1977 · 31/08/2010 10:19

YANBU - but what will ANOTHER size thread achieve - oh yeah more idiots like ccp coming out to make random insults!

CerealOffender · 31/08/2010 10:26

big or small, anyone who reads grazia or any of the other kerry ketona special interest journals, is a nobber.
