to pay my polish nanny cash in hand?

She also wants me to employ her sister as a cleaner, cash in hand. We can afford it, and our house will keep her busy until the end of time.

Fire these tax dodgers and hire one legitimate person who can clean and look after the kids at a reasonable rate, who has all of their documents and is prepared to work legally.

sorrento56 · 27/08/2010 17:13

You are clearly going to do it so why ask on here?

doradear · 27/08/2010 17:14

I think that as long as they r agreeable then it's okay. it's a win win situation for all involved and what the tax man dont know the bank dont greive over.

I was not the one to suggest the amount, or cash in hand.

I haven't said I am going to do it, I was asking if I'd be unreasonable to.

I am currently employing my nanny legitimately. She had asked for cash in hand.

Why would they only work for £4.50? Cleaners get £7-£10, nannies similar.

Why wouldn't they be able to get a job that pays the going rate? What else are they trying to hide?

doradear · 27/08/2010 17:20

how is her english?

sorrento56 · 27/08/2010 17:21

Well the, yes, you would be unreasonable at least to do it.

PissPoor · 27/08/2010 17:23

Her English is pretty good, not sure of the sister.

I don't know what they are trying to hide. I think maybe she wants to do a couple of cash in hand jobs to avoid so much tax being taken off.

OP posts:
splashy · 27/08/2010 17:25

How can you only pay 4.50/hr?

That's far from a living wage and exploitation.

If she offered that's she clearly desperate, doesn't mean you should take advantage though!!

Ishouldprobablywax · 27/08/2010 17:25

Yabvu.

splashy · 27/08/2010 17:27

Also it isn't illegal for her to claim child benefit in this country while her child lives in poland.

Am angry that you are willing to exploit her like this when she has a child to support. Poor woman.

Ladymuck · 27/08/2010 17:27

But they'd get more cash if they took a normally paid job and paid the tax?

Can only assume they're planning to rob you blind at the first opportunity. There's something more fishy that just trying to avoid some tax I reckon.

PissPoor · 27/08/2010 17:28

She eats here, she showers here, amongst other things, what more does she want?

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 27/08/2010 17:28

if you do it (even if she suggested it) it's exploitation

morganlebuffay · 27/08/2010 17:29

doradear "I think that as long as they r agreeable then it's okay. it's a win win situation for all involved and what the tax man dont know the bank dont greive over."

No so, especially the part about her not even paying them minimum wage. When people undercut the minimum wage, it undermines it for the rest of us. It effectively means there is no minimum wage. Same thing with her not paying their NI contributions etc. It damages employment rights for everyone else by creating an unfair playing field. That's why it's illegal.

OP, YABVU. And so is your nanny for her attempted benefit fraud. Why would you want such a person in charge of your kids. Oh, that's right, because you can pay her less than minimum wage. Is this thread a wind-up?

morganlebuffay · 27/08/2010 17:31
  • not so, not 'no so'
AgentZigzag · 27/08/2010 17:32

Eating and showering at yours, what more is there to life eh??

She should be grateful you've plucked her off the cold mean streets to do your bidding, let alone expect you to pay her for the privilege Hmm

wingandprayer · 27/08/2010 17:33

Surely to god this is a troll?

Immigrant tax avoided benefit cheater? Pull the other one.

What's next? Does she only park in disabled spaces as well?

PissPoor · 27/08/2010 17:34

Exactly Agent Grin

sorrento56 · 27/08/2010 17:36

Why would you not want to pay top dollar to the person looking after your children while you work?

PissPoor · 27/08/2010 17:37

Erm....because I don't work.

OP posts:
ruddynorah · 27/08/2010 17:37

Where does her child eat and shower? Does she bring her child?

PissPoor · 27/08/2010 17:39

And I'd rather spend my cash on designer clothes.

OP posts:
sorrento56 · 27/08/2010 17:39

So why do you need someone to look after them then?
