to HATE the Carphone Warehouse?

I am, I do know this. But need to rant!

I took my beautiful iphone in to be fixed a couple of weeks ago.

Broken screen.

They sent it away to have the screen replaced.
The SCREEN REPLACED!

However, they gave me a new phone. Which is fine, but I hadn't backed up recently, and they never warned me that they'd do this.

It's actually very obvious they might do this but I am clearly not so clever to back my phone up before letting it loose for 'repair'.

So I've lost hundreds of before/after pics of my flat and i'm gutted :(

This is a first for me... i think UABU. They did better than fix the screen, they gave you a new phone! Sorry but you really should have backed up and taken off all you wanted before sending the phone off. (Not just for your own sake, but they can steal identity and lots of useful information from you phone too).

I know! I just wish they'd notify me!

Plus you can back up but all your information is still on the iphone itself so they could potentially still steal of your data.

Would you have asked them to send it back broken so you could take you stuff off..then send it back?

Apparently you should do a factory reset first.

Carphone warehouse are crap! I had so many issues with their poor customer service and lack of information! So I did best thing and left them for o2 who are fantastic. Anytime I need my iPhone seeing to they always advise to back it up.

YABU though because really you should be backing your phone up anyway! I think the iPhone is wasted on those that don't know the basics of backing it up! And YABU for being with carphone warehouse!

Ah well, lesson learnt! I hope...

I too hate the Carphone Warehouse, but on this occasion, I think YABU. I had my iPhone screen replaced and it was put back to factory settings as part of the process. I had backed up. Hate them anyway though.

I'm only annoyed at my loss of photos and the fact they just took my phone away without saying too much to me.

I'd last backed my phone up a few weeks ago.

I'd quite happily take my broken phone back atm

That's apple not cpw, all iphones get replaced at our repair center as well,

But the paperwork you signed should have stated about data loss, I always triple check with people that they are on with having all data wiped

I do agree, I'm afraid, that you should have backed up but I hate the Carphone Warehouse more - they are slimy little jobsworths and their customer service is shit so:

Funk - true, but I done it through cpw, and personally I think the sales reps should double check that you've backed up, I only popped in after work was in a hurry.

Useless so and so's I hate them even if it is my fault!!!!

They had my phone for repair, said it was fixed, but it wasnt, said there was nothing they could do as the repair people said it was fine.

Then, dropped phone down toilet, went in to get replaced under insurance, sorted it all after paying the excess, then they tell me I'm due for a free upgrade in 2 weeks.

They blatantly lied to me - told me that they weren't responsible if my phone was faulty and that I would have to take it up with the manufacturer. Then when I mentioned Consumer Direct they grudgingly agreed to send it off to the manufacturers for repair themselves but told me I wasn't eligible for a courtesy phone while they had mine because I hadn't paid extra for their insurance policy. I argued the toss and got given one with a 'let's just get the fucking psycho bitch out of here' expression from the manager.

I phoned CPW's own complaints dept. who told me that that was a lie and I should have been offered a courtesy phone as a matter of course.

Bastards. Lying lazy bastards. Wouldn't shop there now if a naked Daniel Craig was inside giving iphones away for free.

While we're on this topic, can someone tell me (as I'm v naive about such things Blush)... my contract ends in November. Can I call orange directly and renew? Do I then have to stop my direct debit to CW? do I have to give notice to CW? and is the insurance with them rather than the service provider, yes? So I'd stop that dd too?

Mustrun, I think the best thing would be to go directly to Orange, they'd much rather you were with them and are likely to help you do so :)

Kept promising to reimburse within 28 days after non-delivery of online purchase. Never do (3 times). C*phonewarhorse for you.

I have nothing new to add; I just loathe them so much that I want to reiterate that they are bastards. Just in case management at CPW ever google the company to see what public opinion is: this is what it is. You. Are. Bastards. And. Your. Customer. Service. Is. Shit.
