"We have Troops fighting a war without proper equipment..... Yet we donate millions to other countries before helping our own first. 99% of people on facebook won't have the guts to copy and repost this. WILL YOU, I thought charity began at home!!!"

It just offends me.

I would just post this link in reply.

sam84uk · 26/08/2010 22:12

I've seen that too and other similar statuses. They really annoy me.

5inthebed · 26/08/2010 22:13

I hate those type of FB statuses.

YANBU

2shoes · 26/08/2010 22:13

i hate all the ones that tell you have to copy and paste them(yes I even hate the sn ones)

herjazz · 26/08/2010 22:14

I hate all that rubbish. And why bother replying it's not that 99 per cent don't have the guts- many will just disagree with you and think yr a cunt when you can just think it and delete them

loopyloops · 26/08/2010 22:14

YANBU. It offends me too.

Firstly, why does 'troops' have a capital T?

99% of people on Facebook won't actually see it.

And charity begins at home? Well bring the troops home and they won't need the bloody equipment, will they?

On a more serious note, I would definitely post the link as Clem says, or at least a sarcastic comment. Might even de-friend. Tit.

Vallhala · 26/08/2010 22:15

Let's not give aid to troubled nations, let's arm our troops to the hilt and nuke them instead.

On second thoughts, perhaps it's best that you don't post that as a reply. I

It's entirely possible that someone as dense as the FB poster will take you seriously.

pirateparty · 26/08/2010 22:15

YANBU.

My sil posts things like that, and if she wasn't my sil I would de-friend her in an instant.

herjazz · 26/08/2010 22:15

Yeah I hate the sn ones as well 2shoes

Meglet · 26/08/2010 22:16

LOL herjazz

SwanseaSlapper · 26/08/2010 22:19

YANBU. I had a round of these a few months ago on FB. I hate cut and paste statuses to begin with, even for the good causes. Just because I won't cut and paste a FB status doesn't mean I don't care about, say, my relatives who passed away with cancer.

SwanseaSlapper · 26/08/2010 22:23

Anything about "our troops" pisses me off. And wtf makes the life of a UK soldier more precious than a Pakistani family???? grrrr

I fcking hate all this soldier worship. It does my nut in.

I am seriously considering joining this group:

www.facebook.co/group.php?gid=2216265717

Bets on how many "friends" i'd lose in 24hrs?

LMAO!

OP posts:
hf128219 · 26/08/2010 22:28

Well I think the life of a UK soldier may be more precious to those of us who are married to them.

2shoes · 26/08/2010 22:31

what a shit link
2 wrongs don't make a right

DemonChild · 26/08/2010 22:37

I've just de-friended someone who posted that link, so YANBU.

A soldier chooses to join the army, those poor people in Pakistan (and any other natural disasters) were just trying to live their lives.

VirginonRidiculous · 26/08/2010 22:44

Put this on your status, I usually find it gets a laugh:

Please copy and paste this to your status if you know someone, or have been affected by someone, who needs a punch in the face. People who need a punch in the face affect the lives of many. There is still no known cure for someone who deserves a punch in the face, except for a punch in the face, but we can still raise awareness.

midori1999 · 26/08/2010 22:48

I can't read the link Swansea Slapper has posted, probably just as well.

I'm not sure any life is more precious than another, but I do know that people should appreciate our forces a lot more and give them some respect. These are people, after all, who are prepared to put their lives on the line for yours and for other people who do not live in this country.

loopyloops · 26/08/2010 22:56

it's .com, not .co midori.

I wouldn't bother looking though if I were you.

I agree, the armed forces should be properly funded or should be scaled down to fit their budget, equipment should be of a good quality etc, but this should not be charity and people should not be discouraged from giving to charity or caring about overseas aid just because the army's budget is fucked.

MmeLindt · 26/08/2010 22:58

Swansea
The chances of a Brit on FB personally knowing a service man or woman who is in Afghanistan is much higher than them knowing a person affected by the flooding in Pakistan.

So it is not strange for them to be more affected by what is going on in Afghanistan and to value their friend or relative's life higher.

This kind of status is just stupid. These are two completely different issues. We cannot donate money towards a new tank for the troops in Afghanistan. We can however ease the suffering of the poor people who have been made homeless by the floods.

midori1999 · 26/08/2010 23:01

My DH reckons they weren't short of equipment in Iraq or Afghanistan. I think this is something hugely over exaggerated by the press, tbh.

Tippychoocks · 26/08/2010 23:09

Mme Lindt - the chances of a "Brit" being more likely to know someone on active service in Afganistan that someone affected by natural disasters in Pakistan? Are you sure? There are, after all, many, many British people with extended families in Pakistan. I cannot imagine how you could presume one is more likely than the other.
