Yesterday I was out with DS1, DS2, mum and my sort of nephew - now my nephew is actually my friends son I have always classed him as my nephew and he calls me aunty.

So we are sitting in a cafe when the waitress walks over and takes our order, she then remarks how my nephew is my double, DS1 is handsome and DS2 is the most beautiful girl she has ever seen....

DS1 - yes handsome
Nephew - hmm get to that in a minute.
DS2 - IS A BOYYYYYYYYYYY

I look at my mum and we stifle our giggles as I explain that DS2 is a boy and nephew is indeed not mine but thankyou anyway.

The waitress then goes on to say how gorgeous DS2 is and asks what his dad is - I say "A bus driver" (can you tell she was annoying me) she went on to ask where his dad was from because

"DS2 is the most beautiful mixed race boy she has ever seen"

Nephew by the way is black with black parents.....

It just proves people see what they want to see....
for those who haven't seen DS1 or DS2 pics on profile

I must be having a slow day as I completely missed the point of that! Grin

Your children are indeed very gorgeous though Envy

NestaFiesta · 26/08/2010 11:19

Poor waitress was just being nice. Obviously she doesn't have as much knowledge of the children as you. Worse if she had been unfriendly and not said a word.

TheLadyEvenstar · 26/08/2010 11:19

Arse, the point is it was one of the funniest things i have heard

DS1 and DS2 are blondish and both very white nephew is black as you can see, yet the waitress was certain he was mine and my double to look at lol.

MrsMadWriggle · 26/08/2010 11:21

Is that a mixed race cat on your profile?

TheLadyEvenstar · 26/08/2010 11:23

Mrs, is it that obvious??

OP posts:
GrendelsMum · 26/08/2010 11:47

So you're white? And don't look like your nephew?

sterrryerryoh · 26/08/2010 12:08

People definitely see what they want to see. I'm always being told that ds has "my eyes" or is a "mini-me" - well, he might be, but he's also adopted! :)

TheLadyEvenstar · 26/08/2010 15:30

Grendel, i explained in my OP that although we refer to him as my nephew and he calls me aunty he is no blood relation.

Yes I am white and he isn't.

PerpetuallyAnnoyedByHeadlice · 26/08/2010 15:51
TheLadyEvenstar · 26/08/2010 15:52

BuntyPenfold · 26/08/2010 16:26

Oh well, she meant well I suppose.
I know 2 sisters, adopted from separate homes, who are always being told how alike they are.

arsesandoldlace · 26/08/2010 18:06

aah I see! I stand by my original statement, they are both lookers (and the cat too, obviously).

I do get told I look like my dad, which is nice - except he is my stepdad and Mum didn't meet him till I was 18! Grin

Sometimes resemblance resides in facial expressions and mannerisms.

TheLadyEvenstar · 26/08/2010 19:30

lol thanks Arse...and all 3 are cheeky!

Snobear4000 · 26/08/2010 19:35

I don't like mixed-race cats. They belong in wheelie bins.

TheLadyEvenstar · 26/08/2010 19:43

Sno my kitty lives in a wheelie bin most of the time lol Wink

I was once complimented on the behaviour of my twins. I mentioned that they were not both mine and the lady said "Well, I can definitely see where she gets her looks from". Grin

The little girl wasn't mine - she is a cutey though so I took it in the way it was intended.

FallingWithStyle · 26/08/2010 19:51

So, your black nephew is the double of you - but you are white?

Your ds2 was the most beautiful mixed race girl she had seen - but he is a white boy?

Arf! Poor girl, bet she's decided to keep quiet from now on Grin

wonderstuff · 26/08/2010 19:58

Smile people are odd.

TheLadyEvenstar · 26/08/2010 20:02

Falling and she wasn't young either, she was talking about her grandson....
