Was I unreasonable to take DSs for and "adventure" in the rain this afternoon?

It's been at it all day here today and whilst we enjoyed a good few hours of make and do - have used up nearly all those craft kits well meaning relatives give them Grin by 3:30 it was starting to feel like a long time until bedtime.

So we put our coats on and went out in it. Just for an hour and never more than 10 min from home, if we decided to make a run for it. We splashed in puddles and felt the rain on our faces. Was great actually, one of life's simple pleasures that you don't do often enough.

We got home happy, soaked, although not cold, ready to get dry and have tea. My neighbour, who saw pur return, was horrified that I'd "deliberately" let them get so wet. Wasn't helped by the fact that they'd refused to put hoods up, but the wet "spiky" hair was part of the fun as hair gel is banned for little boys in this house.

They're 9 & 7, WIBU?

Not unreasonable at all. Sounds great fun. Your neighbour doesn't know what he or she missed!

puddlepuss · 25/08/2010 18:19

Not at all. I often get the coats and wellies out when it's like this and have a good stomp with the kids. Would she have said the same if it was snowing and the kids went and built a snowman and came back with snow in their hair??

EasilyConfusedIndith · 25/08/2010 18:20

Your neighbour is odd. We regularly run around in the rain. I love it. The other day we nipped up to the park and ran around in circles with our arms spread wide with no raincoats on :) One of the greatest pleasures in life is returning home soaking wet, stripping off and putting comfy, dry tacksuit bottoms on then cuddling up with hot chocolate/warm milk.

Porcelain · 25/08/2010 18:20

Absolutely not! It's a warm time of year, and it's only water for goodness sake.

If they were much younger, or it was January, or you had them out there in their vests and pants, maybe, but stamping in puddles in the rain is all part of being a kid.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 25/08/2010 18:20

you definitely are not BU - but then you knew that Grin

Lulumaam · 25/08/2010 18:20

how old is your neighbour?

i do sometimes encourage teh DCs out into the garden in heavy rain as it feels lovely!

i don't do it.. too much time invested in hair straightenin and eye liner Wink

but lovely ! then hot choccy , hot bath and snuggled under a duvet for a bit of telly and supper

sounds lovely

YANBU, DS1 played tennis this morning in the rain and then spent the entire afternoon running around in the rain.

He is warm and dry now and appears un-harmed.

dingdongmrs · 25/08/2010 18:21

i agree with emo, not unreasonable at all. i love walking in the rain, plus its refreshing and fresh air is always good. ignore your neighour, they obviously have nothing better to do than piss on everyone else parade!! glad you had a good day.

seimum · 25/08/2010 18:21

YANBU at all

deepdarkwood · 25/08/2010 18:21

Are they made of sugar? Then they won't melt.

(one of my Grandama's best Grin)

werewolf · 25/08/2010 18:21

No, YANBU.

Great fun. I bet they'll ask to do it again, too! Grin

mousymouse · 25/08/2010 18:21

yanbu - sounds like great fun!

dustycups · 25/08/2010 18:22

we just had a mn meet up today which involved the same thing! all our dc's running through the splash park in the rain!!
(while we shelterd under the trees!}

coming home and getting warm and dry is also part of the fun!

lifeinagoldfishbowl · 25/08/2010 18:23

We had been in all afternoon 1 - 4.30 - which felt like a life time so the 2 year old and I went out in the rain and jumped in puddles for 30 minutes :)

Morloth · 25/08/2010 18:23

You can't fully appreciate being warm and dry if you haven't previously been cold and wet.

Ishouldprobablywax · 25/08/2010 18:23

I'd have loved that! Really fun and free!

Eglu · 25/08/2010 18:23

As our HT at school says 'they are not made of sugar, they won't melt'

YANBU at all, noys need to run around and let off some steam.

RonansMummy · 25/08/2010 18:23

YABU You should also never give your boys a bath or shower ever again, they'll get wet and dissolve! Wink

AlgebraRocksMySocks · 25/08/2010 18:24

fantastic!!! can we come with you next time? :o

pjmama · 25/08/2010 18:24

You should have replied with the wise words of Peter Kay;

"It's only a bit of rain ya daft bitch, they won't melt!"

Wink
DomesticG0ddess · 25/08/2010 18:24

Of course YANBU, you just want to make the rest of us feel bad for drinking tea and having CBeebies on all afternoon!!! Wink

(Getting my 3 yr old out in the rain is virtually impossible).

pigletmania · 25/08/2010 18:25

YA so not being U, sounds like a barrel of fun, glad you all enjoyed Grin. Good old fashioned fun, we should not be cotton wolling kids, a bit of rain never hurt.

Bloodymary · 25/08/2010 18:26

YANBU. My little girl has been playing out in the rain today (+ yesterday)!
As you said, it is not cold is it, (we are on the south coast).
They are not made of sugar, + I think that it is far healthier than sitting indoors all day long.

anonymousbird · 25/08/2010 18:26

Good for you, we walked the dog in the rain a couple of days ago and it was really funny, finally took shelter under a tree for a few minutes when it got REALLY heavy, but guess what the first thing the DC's told DH when he got home??? That they ran in the rain! They thought it was hilarious.

YADNBU!!!!!
