Was I unreasonable to take DSs for and "adventure" in the rain this afternoon?

It's been at it all day here today and whilst we enjoyed a good few hours of make and do - have used up nearly all those craft kits well meaning relatives give them Grin by 3:30 it was starting to feel like a long time until bedtime.

So we put our coats on and went out in it. Just for an hour and never more than 10 min from home, if we decided to make a run for it. We splashed in puddles and felt the rain on our faces. Was great actually, one of life's simple pleasures that you don't do often enough.

We got home happy, soaked, although not cold, ready to get dry and have tea. My neighbour, who saw pur return, was horrified that I'd "deliberately" let them get so wet. Wasn't helped by the fact that they'd refused to put hoods up, but the wet "spiky" hair was part of the fun as hair gel is banned for little boys in this house.

They're 9 & 7, WIBU?

Oh FGS, don't tell me "they'll catch their death" Hmm

It's H2O, two thirds of our bodies are made of it, it won't burn anyone.

Of course YANBU. Is she a doddery old bag?

sandyballs · 25/08/2010 18:31

NoT unreasonable at all. I did this with dd's recently and dh thought we were nuts. And they could catch a chill Smile

NeverPushWhenItSaysPull · 25/08/2010 18:31

There's no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes.

I occasionally put rain gear and wellies on the DCs and take them to the park to jump in puddles. People smile indulgently and give us a wide berth on the path, the DCs have great fun, and it prevents cabin-fever-related nuclear meltdown.

YANBU

mmmperuna · 25/08/2010 18:36

YADNBU what a lovely way to pass an hour and avoid cabin fever

Heracles · 25/08/2010 18:55

I used to love playing in the rain; YANBU.

It's reaching biblical proprtions round here now, so I'm wondering if it's not too U to start building an Ark.......

ChippyMinton · 25/08/2010 19:01

YANBU. We've just spent the day at legoland in the pouring rain. Went on all the 'wet' rides too. Excellent fun!

KarmaAngel · 25/08/2010 19:01

Of course YANBU! My dd2 loves playing in the garden when it's raining. In fact she's more likely to play out there when it's raining than when it's sunny. She just dons her raincoat and wellies and out she goes. Me I hate the rain, but I wouldn't stop my dds playing in it. All that puddly fun. Grin

Blu · 25/08/2010 19:05

YABU....
To ban hair gel for the poor little boys!

2old4thislark · 25/08/2010 19:08

NeverPushWhenItSaysPull well said about the wrong clothes.

I walked my dogs in the rain and today and saw no one else! Where were the wimps Grin

I love getting out in all weathers - makes me feel so alive.

Maybe your neighbour was worried your DC's would shrink?

flootshoot · 25/08/2010 19:10

sounds lovely. I was very heartened to hear that DS's nursery had taken the toddlers out in wellies to splash in puddles the other day Smile

xkaylax · 25/08/2010 19:10

No sounds Fun, I would love to do that with DS but I hate rain, Mabye I should just face my fear. Blush

Overtiredmum · 25/08/2010 19:11

YANBU at all!! I can't wait to be able to do the same with my DD and DS, but DD still too young.

Hope you all had a lovely time!

mrsfred · 25/08/2010 19:13

YADNBU. Some of our best afternoons have been spent jumping in muddy puddles. Suitably kitted out with wellies and waterproof all-in-ones. The DD's love it.

oliviaaah · 25/08/2010 19:15

Bet your neighbour hasn't got kids!

pissedrightoff · 25/08/2010 19:17

melting....................they're MELTING!!!!!!!!!

spiderlight · 25/08/2010 19:18

Not unreasonable at all! We went out for a fantastic rainy dog-walk and puddle-splashing session this morning and DS got all togged up again to play in his sandpit this afternoon. He loves it. He has really good waterproofs and several pairs of wellies, and will often run to the window as soon as he wakes up to see if it's raining - a day like this is more exciting to him than a snowy day.

RubyBuckleberry · 25/08/2010 19:21

yanbu sounds quality!

traceybath · 25/08/2010 19:23

YABU

traceybath · 25/08/2010 19:24

Well of course you're not but you clearly knew that.

Children in my experience love getting wet.

happiestblonde · 25/08/2010 19:28

YANBU Sounds so fun I wish I'd done the same but it's so cold and I have no children here to entertain

We did the same here. It got to 4pm, we were going stir crazy, so I took DS1 and DS2 out. DS1 jumped in puddles and got his trousers wet and his hood kept falling back. But he loved it. DS2 fell asleep in buggy. Got back, undressed, jogging bottoms on and warm milk. We've just had the best bedtime ever - he was so compliant and I'm sure it's cos he burnt off some steam. I was in a much better mood too!

LackingInspiration · 25/08/2010 19:48

Melt? Seriously? Things don't melt in water, they dissolve in it!

Anyway, that bit of pedantry to one side...OP, YANBU in the slightest. Silly neighbour!

MeMudmagnet · 25/08/2010 20:24

Some people are strange aren't they??
We're always out in the rain, as someone else said, you can't really enjoy being warm and dry until you've been cold and wet.

A couple of weeks ago...when the sun still shone... we went out in the sunshine to walk the dog, all with hot weather clothes and no coats. As we headed across the fields, dark clouds gathered, then the heavens opened. It was so heavy we could hardly see!! Whilst running for a group of trees dd1 (11) slipped over, so was now plastered in mud. Lots of fun was had trying to get up a tiny 2 foot slope, which had become so slimey in the sudden downpour, we ended up crawling up on our hands and knees!
As we finally got back to the road where we live, the rain stopped and the sun came out. So we walked back to our house in the blazing sunshine, soaking wet and covered in mud....

Anyone who saw us must have wondered how on earth we'd got into such a state.
I'd love to have meet your neighbour!!!

YANBU My DS aged 4 likes nothing more than a run out in the rain. "We're not afraid of the rain" he shouts as we run about like crazy people.

He has an all in one rain suit but never uses the hood. We were in the playground in the rain the other week. I was getting soggy and he was going v.v.fast on the slide! Grin
