Feeding kids ood ketchup?

monkeyfacegrace · 24/08/2010 12:22

Scenario, no food in house. Kids, 3 & 1.5, have fish fingers, chips and lots of veg. Will only eat veg with 'chup.
One old sachet of heinz ketchup in cupboard from Maccy D's, dated 27/07/10.
To eat or not to eat?

eat.

NoahAndTheWhale · 24/08/2010 12:25

I would eat it (well I wouldn't as I don't like it but I would feed it to other people Smile). Don't think it would go off - just might be a bit less squirty than normal

TrappedinSuburbia · 24/08/2010 12:26

You mean you've never dragged a bottle of sauce out the cupboard thats at least 2 years out of date and not realised till you've used it!
It will be fine!!

gagamama · 24/08/2010 12:28

Eat, it's mostly vinegar anyway which is a preservative. I'm sure they have a pretty large margin of error on most use by dates, not much is going to happen to a sealed sachet of ketchup in a month.

Eat

monkeyfacegrace · 24/08/2010 12:29

Yey!
Can always rely on MN!

Now, curry super noodles for me then....
Or stale bread and chunks of cheese...

Thought this was going to be a Dr Who thread, and was going to ask where you got ood ketchup.Blush

DSs would love it.

Ebb · 24/08/2010 13:03

Eat, it'll be fine.

Ds, 2.3, is going through a ketchup phase and asked for some at MIL's. She produced a sachet from the cupboard and when we put it on Ds's plate, it was brown! The date was 2006! And no, we didn't let him eat it.....

BubbaAndBump · 24/08/2010 13:10

Oh yes, it'll be fine.

Less sure about the 5 day old mozzarrella (sp?) I just fed my little ones!! Shock Confused

BubbaAndBump · 24/08/2010 13:12

Not knowingly I hasten to add...

sc13 · 24/08/2010 13:12

Eat.
My PIL have stuff in their cupboard which looks like it came from an excavated ancient Egyptian tomb
