How stupid do they think we are? First of all the try and get of the the national deficit in one term, despite the stupidity and harm to the economy it will do, ( can anyone count on one digit any govt who does not have a deficit?)

Its all so pathetically ideological...Tories hate any public spending on anything other that rubbish collection and pothole filling...and really, who gives a toss about human rights abuse around the world...bunch of bloody foreign johnnies.....

It' just astounding at just how hungry they are to achieve their aims...like toddlers let loose at a birthday party food table laden with e numbers and pop....ingoring healthy options ...but all at the expense. I think, at their longtime survival....

YANBU. Behind the shiny faces and PR bicycles it's thuggery on a massive scale.

katiestar · 22/08/2010 20:28

I think the government is right. They should use public funds to sort out the tax payers own country and let people donate to charity if they want to address this sort of problem.i am hopping mad that the UK govt have given aid to Pakistan, who hate us and wouldn't piss on us if we are on fire.

MadameDefarge · 22/08/2010 20:29

Aw, disco, did I put you off with my ranty stuff? sorry! Just really bugs me how blatant they are being about it!

I sort of imagine poor old Dave having been left alone the win the Election, but now being taken downstairs to be worked over by the behind the scenes guys to follow through with their suspended agenda since 1997...problem is, the world has seriously changed since then... I don't think they get that.

Slashing frontline services will hurt huge amounts of people...

oh katie, do try for something other than a DM headline, wtf has has overseas aid got to do with public spending here?

OP posts:
mindtheagegap · 22/08/2010 20:33

YANBU. You cannot put economics before human rights. The news just gets worse and worse - can't bear to read the paper anymore.Sad

MadameDefarge · 22/08/2010 20:35

And Katie, the kind of Toryism you seem to aspire to also includes a patriarchal policing element. but you seem to reject.....how do you reconcile those those two differing philosophies?

I can't imagine you know an awful lot about the history of Britain overseas, as Colonialist, or simply entrepreneurial state-backed raiders...( how are you on Iranian, history , for example?)

Bah, ill-educated nonsense makes a mockery of British achievements....

OP posts:
MadameDefarge · 22/08/2010 20:39

Katie, do really not realise how intertwined we are with the rest of the world? how puny the UK is? How powerful the big nations are? How our future is reliant upon the actions of others...? wtf do you think is going to happen to our world if China won't play ball environmentally, for example?

Or perhaps you have no opinion on that, or are simply unaware?

OP posts:
MadameDefarge · 22/08/2010 20:45

Maybe big words scare you?

No wonder you are hopping mad.

Are you on a one woman crusade Defarge?

Or do you just like talking to yourself?

MadameDefarge · 22/08/2010 20:51

Marvellous. Alouiseg. So glad you could join me. Can you contribute anything to my personal monologue? Address my IABU?

onimolap · 22/08/2010 20:56

They've cut one FCO annual report; no change to policy, international obligations etc.

Was the FCO report a key document in this? Had people even been aware it existed?

After all, the UN work (to which we contribute) will continue, as will the work of NGOs (who will still be able to work with British Missions abroad).

The Guardian is turning into the Daily Mail of the left.

Alouiseg · 22/08/2010 20:59

Sorry, it's my day off. I havnt got a clue what you're talking about.

MadameDefarge · 22/08/2010 21:00

Now onim, thats a really interesting observation. My understanding of it was that the FCO was critical in imforming govt policy... for give me if I have got that wrong..

OP posts:
MadameDefarge · 22/08/2010 21:01

Ah well, Alouiseg, we all need days off!

MadameDefarge · 22/08/2010 21:03

But just a point omni, the Observer is not the same as the Guardian, they get very cross if we conflate the two...

I'll address your AIBU, MadameD. Yes, YABU. Completely U, in fact.

Thank you Oracle. And for your searing expose of the weaknesses of my argument.

OP posts:
onimolap · 22/08/2010 21:06

If you look at the FCO publications on human rights, you will see that the report which is to be cut is solely the overview. The country reports - more detailed and the basis from which action flows - will all confine to exist. They're online, at fco.gov.uk if you're interested.

Bureaucratic processes within the UK should not be confused with the actual sharp end work.

MadameDefarge · 22/08/2010 21:09

Thats really interesting, Onim. Any you clearly know more about this than I, do you think this will make any difference to our Governments policy not have access to an overview?
