to think that ADHD/ADD is a load of nonsense?

Are we really producing ever more kids with these conditions or do parents simply need to take back control and realise that, at times, all kids can be obnoxious, loud, defiant, restless and fidgety and that strictly enforced rules for behaviour, lots of TLC, and the occasional smack on the bum may be the way forward?

MrsCrafty · 22/08/2010 22:58

How delightful, you all play a word game because someone states their experience and it simply doesn't match what you wanted to hear.

Terribly grown up of you all. Do you deal with other crisis by word games?

I wonder when your children are in need, you say 'blue cows in the sky'.

Fascinating stuff I must say, terribly ignorant too.

Lougle · 22/08/2010 22:59

MrsCrafty, have you seen my recent post? I don't think that is the stuff of word games.

But the frogs spirit lived on in the hearts of everyone she/he had met and Simon felt guilty for saying that only non amphibians could participate in his talent/less shows

wasuup3000 · 22/08/2010 23:03

high on the drugs of ignorance

Tiredmumno1 · 22/08/2010 23:04

Simons motto - ignorance is bliss

wasuup3000 · 22/08/2010 23:04

and so simon let frogs sing on his special x spot and take part at last in his show

ouryve · 22/08/2010 23:04

MrsCrafty, I think you need to change the types of camp sites you frequent.

(Putting serious hat on) I don't dispute that there is a lot of poor and indifferent parenting, of kids with ADHD and of typical kids. ADHD is often accompanied by impulsive and oppositional behaviour that is hard for a parent with a small repertoire of parenting tools to deal with. The amount of firmness and consistency needed to deal with some of these kids is a tall order, even for the most with it parents. It's absolutely bloody exhausting. It's stuff that takes more than a few parenting classes for some people to even begin to learn.

My dad worked as a prison officer most of his adult life and spent several years in the 80s working in a Detention Centre, where the aim was a "short, sharp shock." He was very firm (same as a parent!) and well respected by the inmates and never had any trouble. He was quite thrown when he witnessed DS1 at his hyperactive, impulsive worst at Easter. I'm pretty tough and used to it and I still get a knot in my stomach when I know it's coming and there's not a thing I can do to prevent it because the more I try, the worse it's going to be. I'm sure you can see why some parents just give in to demands because it really can be like living with a little dictator with some kids.

Oh I love a nice bedtime story I feel all rested and calm now and ready for my bed. Just off to make myself a nice Horlicks anyone else want one?

genieinabottle · 22/08/2010 23:05

Experience! err what experience? camping out and supposedly seeing lots of misbehaving out of control children and been told by their parents that they have ADHD, does not count as experience imo.

I went camping this year with my two children. One of which has asd. And i did not let him run riot through the campsite.
Nor did i see lots of badly behaved children and parents using their ADHD as an excuse for that matter!

Which campsite did you go to? I must make a note to avoid that place.
