To think ex should not be letting DS (6) play Lara Croft Tomb Raider video game?

It's a 12+ rating (presumably for a reason). It's all boobs and bum and weapons/shooting. My gut instinct is that it's not right/healthy/appropriate for a six-year-old boy, albeit a fairly mature one.

I've tried to reason with DS's dad, who thinks it's fine for DS to play this game. His dad also has a lodger who's into computer games and DS said yesterday that he'd had a bash at a 16+ rated one with him.

Am I having an OTT drama about something fairly benign here, or is this not on? And if I'm not being unreasonable, is there anything I can do about it?

DS watched me play it and he was 5. I find Tomb Raider fairly PG. You don't have to like it but I can't imagine there is much you can do about it, up to his dad really.

YANBU to not like it. I wouldnt be impressed either. However I dont think there is anything you can do unless you can prove it is causing significant harm.
I am sorry though, I have been in your position and it is very frustrating.

Im very strict with what games my DSs can play. I do allow cert 12 but nothing higher. They are 11 and 8. DS1 has a lot of friends who play cert 16 and 18 games and their parents dont blink an eye.

They accept this at the momment, but with DS1 going to secondary school, Im waiting for him to put the pressure on for older games.

I used to play Tomb Raider but it was years ago. There was nothing that wasn't ok for a 6 yo. I've never seen anything too awful in stuff rated 12, so i wouldn't worry about this specifically. Might be time to talk to him BEFORE they move on to COD and GTA though?
