Ds is 17 and yesterday we went to college to collect his As level results, when we got there we met with his friend and his friends mum, whom id never met - her son gave me a hug Hmm as all teens seem to do these days and then he and my son stopped to chat to some other pals leaving me with the other boys mum.

I thought we chatted quite nicely about results etc etc and was a bit gobsmacked when the boys returned and all of a sudden she said 'ohhhh your xxxxx's mum!!!!'.

Im 36 wed just held a reasonably intelligent convo and id walked in with ds,her son had greeted me - who else could I be??

I understand she may have thought I was younger or his sister or whatever but to simply say that ???

All I could think to say was 'well he calls me mum so i must be [smile'.

What mystery nickschick?

OrmRenewed · 21/08/2010 14:22

nickschick - May I just say 'apostrophes please!'

Wink
elmofan · 21/08/2010 14:52

well i took nickschick post to mean that maybe the other mother was almost looking down on her for having her ds so young ....... like she was trying to work out how old you were when you had him Confused

Goblinchild · 21/08/2010 15:19

Nickschick, from what I clearly remember of living in Oldham, having your PFB at the age of 18 is by no means unusual. Grin
Many manage it at 16 or less.
OH used to be Hmm at being mistaken for a grandfather.

nickschick · 21/08/2010 16:09

Goblin Grin .....elmo i think that was how i felt but you put it into words for me ,Orm .....apostrophes schapostophes Wink.

I was 19 when i had ds ....

The mystery??

DH dropped ds1 off at some event at the same time other boys mum dropped other boy off therefore they met each other .......dh is 17 years older than me,thats why she was shocked (i think).

"I understand she may have thought I was younger or his sister or whatever but to simply say that ???"

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Who are you kidding, OP?

Oh and btw, I am simply furious. I've just got back in from the shops where the rudest woman mistook me for Eva Mendes. Honestly, I am hopping mad! How very dare she etc etc...

curryfreak · 21/08/2010 18:26

The local green grocer said i had a look of Angelia Jolie about me.
I was highly offended:)
Op, you're fishing for compiments. Go away.

cupcakesandbunting · 21/08/2010 18:40

I do hope you told him where to get off, curryfreak. Terrible behaviour.

ChippingIn · 21/08/2010 18:50

Cupcakes - I hope you slapped her!!

cupcakesandbunting · 21/08/2010 18:55

Well, of course I did, after repeating it very loudly so that everyone in the immediate vicinity heard it. Upset me no end, it did.

chipmonkey · 21/08/2010 19:03

Well, nickschick, it could be worse. My uncles dw was chatting to a stranger once with her ds2 in the buggy when said stranger said "So you must be the granny"
She was not impressed.

ChippingIn · 21/08/2010 19:05

Well I'm not suprised really.... so bloody rude. Glad you told him though.

Quite frankly, I'm tired of being told I look like Eva Longoria - I just sigh and roll my eyes now....

cupcakesandbunting · 21/08/2010 19:12

It does get rather irksome, being told that you're young/beautiful looking. I'm almost on the edge of a breakdown, I get so many compliments a day.

Just stop it, everyone, please. I'm not sure how many moe compliments I can take!

ChippingIn · 21/08/2010 19:17

I have come to terms with most of it tbh, having had it all my life - it's the eye lashes at the moment, people keep drooling over them....

nickschick · 21/08/2010 19:50

ffs go read another thread you miserable bloody people Grin

I gave birth in a ward full of teens who hopped out of bed and pulled their pre-pregnancy jeans on, whilst adding the slap and juggling the baby without difficulty.
I was briefly reassured when the latest member of the ward looked at least in her twenties, until I talked to her and found out that it wasn't her PFB but her 5th PB. Shock
nickschick, you're heading for a mumsnet slapping, you know that don't you?
Yorkshire St on a Saturday night would be less risky. Grin

thefirstmrsDeVere · 21/08/2010 21:38

Good Luck...

Olifin · 21/08/2010 22:10

I was mistaken for my children's grandmother this week. I am 32 :(

nickschick · 21/08/2010 22:13

Its a very awkward situ, chipping Sad.

Olifin at 32 in Oldham youd probably be a grandma Hmm lol

OP posts:
cupcakesandbunting · 21/08/2010 22:13

32 year old grandmas are becoming rather common, if Jeremy Kyle is to be believed. Don't take it to heart Grin

Olifin · 21/08/2010 22:18

Thanks ladies! To be fair, thanks to my years of slight over-excess, I think I could be perceived to be mid-late thirties and the woman who asked me the question comes from an area where young Grandmas are pretty common, I think. Initially, I thought she meant I look mid-60s, since that's how old my children's grandparents are!
