Ds is 17 and yesterday we went to college to collect his As level results, when we got there we met with his friend and his friends mum, whom id never met - her son gave me a hug Hmm as all teens seem to do these days and then he and my son stopped to chat to some other pals leaving me with the other boys mum.

I thought we chatted quite nicely about results etc etc and was a bit gobsmacked when the boys returned and all of a sudden she said 'ohhhh your xxxxx's mum!!!!'.

Im 36 wed just held a reasonably intelligent convo and id walked in with ds,her son had greeted me - who else could I be??

I understand she may have thought I was younger or his sister or whatever but to simply say that ???

All I could think to say was 'well he calls me mum so i must be [smile'.

Scottish mummy stop trying to make me fall into your trap of agreeing with you Grin.

It was afterwards when ds friend asked him how old i was that i realised the age thing might have been why.

Sorry - I read it as 'gosh , really, you are so pert and thrusting how could you be his mum'

But then I found out after she left that whenever the cleaner answered the door she would say 'yes I am Pagwatch'

So perhaps they thought you were the cleaner?

But then she was younger than me and drove a better car.. so not sure if that was good or bad either..

Grin and Confused

scottishmummy · 20/08/2010 22:59

you loved it couldnt wait to post on mn.its the self congratulatory "I understand she may have thought I was younger or his sister or whatever"

thefirstmrsDeVere · 20/08/2010 23:01

I went to a car boot with my 17 year old and my newborn. After a few casual comments from a few different stall holders I realised that they thought he was my partner Shock

Honestly, totally, truly, honestly I was NOT flattered. I didnt assume they thought I was young and lovely, I assumed they thought I was Jeremy Vile fodder/

I just felt a bit ick for a couple of days.

God knows how my poor boy felt, being mistaken for a raddled blonde's baby daddy.

nickschick · 20/08/2010 23:01

MrsDeVere

I was on holiday with Ds1 two years ago and these young women ( 20 somethings I would guess) were eyeing him up and giving me filthy looks.
I felt

FallingWithStyle · 20/08/2010 23:08

I have also tried to sound it out in various ways in my head and cant imagine how it could have made you cross...at all.

SkylineDrifter · 20/08/2010 23:09

Yes looks like you're fishing for compliments, but I'm sure you're not, that's just how your op reads. But hey ho what does that matter. I'm sure you're young and very lovely. How old was the other mother?

Oh and no reason to be cross - take these things as compliments - they can be pretty thin on the ground as you get older and more haggard.

pagwatch · 20/08/2010 23:11

Grin maybe swallowedafly

But possibly that could make it even worse

Pag It is a really odd sensation isnt it? It took me a couple of days to shake it. Odd - its not like I was doing anything - just having a day out with my kids!

Nice that your DS is kissing and hugging (as long as it doesnt get too over powering) my DS can hardly stand to be in the same room as me atm Sad

ChippingIn · 20/08/2010 23:15

NicksChick ha ha ha ha ha NOT. Your post is coming across all 'look at me, look at me' Clearly though there is something you are failing to get across to us - want to try again??

MrsDeVere - spluttered all over my keyboard... Jeremy Vile Fodder! I bet you are gorgeous though, your beautiful DD had to get her looks from somewhere!! (Is DS refusing to be seen in public with you now??)

Pag - I get this with my Godson :( [head injury but looks 'normal' and works out so very, fit and good looking lad - they look at him, look at me and we get a lot of Hmm Hmm]

So sweet as usual chipping

I have no idea how I produce that girl - truely.

DS is going through a 'phase'. I am hoping praying he will come through it fairly soon.

ChippingIn · 20/08/2010 23:32

TFMD - xx xx both sets of fingers crossed for you! I guess he feels he's got a lot of 'stuff' to be pissed off about :( How old is the 'newborn' DS now - he's getting very big!!

nickschick · 21/08/2010 14:10

well the 'mystery' is solved ........

sorrento56 · 21/08/2010 14:18

I read it as she was discovering you were the mother of the child who had upset her son..
