I know I'm being bitchy, but am I being unreasonable?

I'm in my 40's and so are nearly all of my friends.

The picture I have on my facebook profile was taken earlier on this year.

The pictures my friends have put up as their profile pictures are so old, they have had to be scanned in as they were taken in the days before digital cameras had been invented.

I know for a fact that one of my friends has for her profile picture a photo that I took of her when we went on holiday 25 years ago - I kid you not.

Why do they do that?

Ha! Because they look good, that's why! I saw an old photo of myself the other day and was shocked, totally and utterly shocked, that I actually looked pretty damn hot. Would never use it as my profile picture though as no-one would have a clue who I was!

Bitchy? A tad. Unreasonable? No.

BAFE · 20/08/2010 16:04

Are they in denial about how old they look d'ya think?

Probably because we're never as young and good-looking in print as we are in our heads! Grin

Where's the harm in preferring the pics before everything started to sag a bit?! Comes to us all, doesn't mean we want to look at it though! Wink

Or are they just really vain

I don't think you are being bitchy. You haven't said anything mean about it.

dolphin13 · 20/08/2010 16:05

Hee hee, my facebook picture is recent but I used the facial touch up in Boots to iron out a few wrinkles before I put it on.

Makes me feel good about myself, no harm done so I think you are being just a tiny bit U.

nickelbabe · 20/08/2010 16:06

they're vain.

but it could be because people looking for them might not know what they look like now....

CheapHawaiian · 20/08/2010 16:06

I don't do Facebook, but I imagine there are several reasons for having an old photo of yourself. Not least would be a conviction that one has not aged well.

They are all probably whispering behind your back going, "It's alright for her, the beeaatch. It's not like she put the work in, just good genes. How dare BAFE have this year's photo up, just because she has aged better than Cindy Crawford."

They'll start keeping their husbands away from you soon, and only meeting you in dimly lit bars to hide the ravages that time has exacted on their faces.

Or it could be that they are always taking the photos and so none exist of them in the last 10 years. I think my wedding was the last time someone photographed me.

Ha Ha CheapHawaiian - in my dreams - Grin

but now that you've mentioned it, yeah, I think a lot has to do with how you think you've aged and I don't think I've done badly, although my fat does help enormously in filling in the wrinkles

Well, I have a photo of me as a child on my FB! why? because I work in a school and do not want every pupil sending me friend requests? I have my settings to friends only so they can't see anything else about me. The way I see it is that genuine old friends will know its me ( they will remember me from that picture) or newer friends will look at the picture and see my son staring right back at them and they would also know its me! (he looks like my double when I was a child)

Why does it matter to you what pictures people put on their FB? Surely we all choose the best picture for our own circumstances?

BAFE · 20/08/2010 16:18

It doesn't matter to me, I'm just being bitchy.

I used a photo of me when I was about 15 for a while - but it was so very clearly taken in the 80s and my hair was preposterous spectacular.

There are hardly any phots of me these days - I tend to avoid the camera. The only recent photos of me are those taken at parties and weddings when I generally look, ahem, as if I'm enjoying myself. I would rather not use those as a profile picture Grin
