to be promising to make a dentist appointment for more than a week and now panicking because I have got one

I have had problems with a double tooth on and off for 2-3 years. It goes through bouts of being very sensitive but every time I tell the dentist (and I do see him regularly every 6 months) he tells me he can't find anything wrong with it. He even X-rayed it once and said it was fine. One time when I insisted it still hurt he said he thought he could see a crack in a filling so he re-filled it. However, when the anaesthetic wore off I realised it was the wrong tooth!! Several times he has sprayed orange gungy stuff on to reduce the sensitivity, which seems to work for a while but has no lasting effect.

Anyway I think things have come to a head. Just over a week ago while I was away on holiday, I was having a meal out and must have bit hard on a fish bone or something because I got a real spasm of pain. After that it hurt if I tried to eat on that side so I have spent the last 10 days only eating on one side of my mouth.

I said that I would definitely make an appointment as soon as I got home. Well I was too busy yesterday but while I was eating dinner yesterday I cautiously tried to eat on that side and although it didn't exactly hurt it definitely felt weird. I had a look in the mirror and I am pretty sure that the problem now is that the tooth is actually loose!!

I am worried that this now means end of road for this tooth though in some ways I will be glad to see the back of it as it has caused so much trouble.
Anyway I went just now to make an appointment and they said to go back at 3:20pm today. So now I am panicking and can't concentrate on anything because I am convinced he will have to extract it and I am a bit - well -scaredSad

Oh heck and I wasn't expecting it so soon so I have been eating and drinking coffee and I am going to have to go out and bou a tooth brush because I will be embarassed to go and see him without cleaning them first.

Two hours to go......

I refer you to my thread on the same subject - it will not hurt, no matter what. Stock up on painkillers tho - not aspirin for some reason, mine said paracetomol and ibuprofen. Good luck!

Where was your thread grumpy?

How much longer afterwards did it hurt?

Are you sure it's loose? I went to see a specialist recently (at great expense) because I was convinced some of my teeth were wobbly and he said people do sometimes think they've got wobbly teeth when in fact they're just forcing their whole jaw to move very slightly, and the tooth itself is fine. Have you got gum disease? I think it's fairly uncommon for adult teeth to get wobbly unless you've got significant gum disease.

it was in chat, somewhere, think i started it just after i got back, about the same time as you! Wisdom tooth, removed today, wadding just taken out, and having to drink thro straws. Really hungry but can't eat anything - not painful just numb and yuk.

It wasn't loose!! Apparently the tooth itself had splintered so the movement I could feel was the splintered bit of tooth rather than the whole thing.

The dentist drilled out the existing filling (quite a big one) took off the splintered bit and then re-filled it (even bigger filling)

Hopefully that will sort it out but I am still quite numb from the injection

grumpypants Poor you. I hope you are soon back to normal.

no aspirin as it thins your blood and you want it to clot quickly after an extraction...I think that's right anyway Grin

That sounds horrible! I am much better, just checking the antibiotic packet to see if i can have a glass of wine later...Grin
