to expect any less from a mobile phone company?

Seriously, I'd like MN's opinion on this one -

Short story:
I recently upgraded my handset to a Blackberry. I asked before I requested the handset if there were any extra charges. I was told there wasn't. My contract was changed to a £40 + 5 insurance one, an increase from my previous contract, but there we go, I accepted that.

I got the handset today. It doesn't have internet. I rang the company. They told me that I have to pay an extra £5 a month for it, a special charge.

I hit the roof, especially after having spoken to two people and specifically being told that there was no extra charge and that my bill would be £45 a month. It will now be £50.

I am fuming, and will now spend the rest of the night bitching about it to everyone who listen as I cannot believe I was so stupid as to take their word for it. I am also pissed off that I now have to send the handset back, moan about getting back the extra money that I paid for it, and go through some everlasting ballache to be put back on my original contract.

Am I being unreasonable on this one?

Not Vodafone by any chance?

marriednotdead · 12/08/2010 22:58

Bet it is flisspaps...

Ilythia · 12/08/2010 23:02

Did you tell them you wanted internet/data included on your new contract?
cos if you didn't specifically say that yabu. Sorry.

Flisspaps · 12/08/2010 23:05

I didn't tell my phone company (guess who) that I wanted their internet package including, they gave it me anyway.

Try cancelling it...ha!

TrillianAstra · 12/08/2010 23:06

You asked if there were any extra charges, and there aren't any extra charges for doing exactly what you did on your old phone but on this phone.

There are extra charges if you do internet - which presumably you didn't do on your old phone.

They were answering your question completely honestly and completely unhelpfully.

It appears that your phone company eploy literal genies.

FlookCrow · 12/08/2010 23:11

Internet is included in my tarif already. But not with a Blackberry. I used internet on my old phone which was included on their Dolphin package.. apparently it's not applicable on this phone which I was not told.

Ah, yabu by stealth, in which case i don't have an opinion.

Appletrees · 12/08/2010 23:12

I think this is misselling. I thi.k you shod take it up hard in the shop in person.

Appletrees · 12/08/2010 23:14

Really this is very bad an d i think you have a case.

funkybuddah · 12/08/2010 23:50

They shouldn't be sellung you a blackberry without the bb and data package, does your tariff mention blackberry or bb anywhere? If so then you do have data, they come together

funkybuddah · 12/08/2010 23:55

Oh and if you got it online or over the phone all us instore can do is change priceplan , we are now treated as separate parts of the business and we do no returns/refunds unless purchased instore, we are happy to help but going hard at store staff is a bit shit
