Got back from the hospital today, have been given the date for my spinal fusion operation.
I was offered the option of 8th December which I didnt fancy as both my childrens birthdays are in December plus there's Christmas obviously! So my consultant said 5th January.

Officially shitting myself.

Sad

Sound scary :( Is the operation to un-fuse your spine, or fuse it? Sorry if that's a stupid question, but my DH has ankylosing spondylitis, and has fused vertebrae in his neck.

Try not to think about it until a few days before. Thats what I do

Good luck

I had a bit of therapy to help me with dentists. I was told to try to focus on the positive outcomes there would be. How much better I would feel and look afterwards. Would that help you? Will you be in less pain afterwards for example?

BusyMissIzzy · 10/08/2010 20:50

Ribs taken out Shock. Sorry, I'm probably not helping. I think surgery is scary for anyone, but it's amazing what they can do these days. DH had both hips replaced 5 years ago and was up walking the next day.

Fingers crossed I'll be in less pain, it's mainly to stop a curvature from getting worse than it already is, with an added benefit of cosmetic improvement! I do try to concentrate on the positive outcome but atm I cant stop dwelling on the risks and the recovery period.
