makes a referance to my "little job".

Yes it's dull, part time, evening job. Yes it's minimum wage. No I'm not saving lives or changing the lives of millions. Yes I am in the main a SAHM who just works a few hours a week.

I'm nearly certain I'm being a touch over sensitive here but honestly but I'm finding terms like "little job" and "a bit of pocket money" really farking offensive.

YANBU - who is calling it that? A job's a job. I would seriously tell anyone who called it that to eff right off.

gingernutlover · 10/08/2010 16:28

my dh called my 3 day a week job my hobby once

once and once only

YANBU

It's various family members (not DH though, he's not that stupid!). I'm not sure if it's deliberate or not but I actually makes me feel quite small.

ah, is it older family members?

My mother does call my job "little" and for "pin money". I ignore her. In her day, that was what it was called when the SAHM did a few hours work.

ConnorTraceptive · 10/08/2010 16:35

That would have warrented a poke in the eye ginger!

I'm also not fond of comments such as "it must be nice to have some me time" and "Must be nice to have something to stimulate your mind a bit"

Some are older but a couple are only mid to late 30's so no excuses for them!

YANBU. Bastards who say that to you. I have something similar with mine as I work from home, people tend to think it's easy.

Ignore them if you can, they are just ignorant.

gingernutlover · 10/08/2010 16:38

LOL, no need for violence - I just gave him the look!

Are you enjoying your job OP? That's all that matters. I found my Dad stopped saying things like this when I pointed out what my job paid for.

ConnorTraceptive · 10/08/2010 16:45

It's ok as jobs go but I'm mainly doing for the cash to benefit the whole family not to just top up the "housekeeping"!! I suspect I may be overly sensitive

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 10/08/2010 16:48

if it helps, my job is full-time and i don't even get pin money! (self-employed, you see)
but i would be tempted to poke her in the eye too - it's none of her business whether your job is part-time - you are financially contributing to your household.

YANBU

My mum used to say this and it irritated me.
