I have been attending hospital for nearly 20yrs for eye problem now I may have AMD and been told will have to attend another hospital miles away with no public transport links because it is in our health board area. The usual hosp is near with good bus service, have all my records and consultants know me so what is the big deal.

perhaps your local hospital does not have expertise in ARMD?

unfitmother · 09/08/2010 19:47

Have you asked why?

It's easy for me to say, as I can walk to national centres, but given the choice between district general hospitals and specialist units, you shouldn't need to think twice. See Bristol heart scandal, Oxford heart scandal, etc. The key metric for any unit is "how many do you do?"

hospital I usually attend is centre of exellence for eye care, the one they want to send me to is in the local health board area and apparently you must attend hosp in your area but historicly everyone in our town attended the nearer hosps as they have transport link etc but not in our area now.

I thought your were entitled to choose your hospital

(assuming of course said hospital offer that treatment/specialism, which is sounds like your current one does.)
