Maternity/Nursing lingerie woes

PetitChou · 08/08/2010 12:45

I refuse to believe I am only one of a few who think the range of maternity/nursing lingerie available is woefully inadequate? I never thought I was particularly big, 32DD (BC), 34H (BF) yet I have struggled terribly to find decent bras during my pregnancy and post! Those in my size tend to be either frumpy, uncomfortable or unsupportive (& without matching knickers!). BC I favoured the likes of Elle McPherson or Calvin Klein. Has anyone any recommendations please? Please help, I am sick of ugly lingerie!!!

Have you tried looking at figleaves.co.uk? They have some lovely nursing bra and knickers.

MrsC2010 · 08/08/2010 13:18

Elle McPherson does nursing bras etc I think? Try Hot Milk as well.

SloanyPony · 08/08/2010 13:20

Hot Milk is your best bet if you want matching knickers. Elle MacPherson doesn't go far above a D or didn't last time I tried though that might have changed.

Bravissimo though I wouldn't hold out too much hope about them being nice or matching knickers though you never know.

I feel your pain - I just gave up and used NCT ones until I didn't need nursing bras anymore on the basis that I wasn't going to get to do any porn shoots any time soon

nancydrewrocked · 08/08/2010 13:25

Oh I so feel your pain. Why no matching knickers??? It doesn't make sense.

And whilst I am at it I know I need a bit of extra support but does the band between cups (what is that bit called?!) really need to come half way to my chin?

Debenhams have a few bits and hot milk (ASOS) but they are pricey. Mothercare (believe it or not) do ok not hideous matching sets.

I will watch this thread with interest.

PetitChou · 08/08/2010 13:26

I found both Elle Macpherson and Hot Milk only went up to E cup :(?

Figleaves is definitely one of the sites with the best selection but still not great sadly.

Would love to find some in pretty cotton or even bamboo?

Am I that hard to please?

If you can squeeze into a G cup (unlikely if you are anything like I was), Provocateur has a couple of nice bits...

tethersend · 08/08/2010 13:32

Ahem

nancydrewrocked · 08/08/2010 14:36

Elle Mcpherson definitely go up to a G so maybe a 36G (on the narrowest clip) might work?

Scaredycat3000 · 08/08/2010 14:46

I'm the same size as you, it's a nightmare, a painful, unfashionable nightmare.
I will report back later when I have time.

PetitChou · 08/08/2010 14:55

Thank you!! I was beginning to think I was in my own unfashionable nightmare...

I have just ordered 8 nursing bras from figleaves, using the code FIGTWENTY at the checkout gets you 20% off, delivery is £3.50 (which you will save via the discount) and returns are free so you can order loads to try on. Their website has a search by size option too which makes things easier. To be quite honest though I am a G cup (whilst BF)and in fact there was a lot more choice in my size than yours :(
Hope this helps, at least by saving money if not by injecting more glamour :)

weirdbird · 08/08/2010 17:10

www.brastop.com/Sets.aspx?SetDepartmentId=47

Only do bras over D cup and do nursing bras in all different makes with matching knickers!

Only downside is it is end of line so you can't always get the size/style you want, but far more choice then I found elsewhere!

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 08/08/2010 17:14

I am a 34H too and to some extent gave up, I did get a plain (but underwired)one from www.nursingbra.co.uk (I don't have the time to match my pants!)but there are alot that look v old fashioned. Bravissimo who I use when I'm not pregnant have a crap very poor maternity and nursing range. I have tried ebay but tbh it's hard to get a good fit, so being able to easily return is important.

Good Luck

beanlet · 08/08/2010 17:40

Yep; I'm an H cup when BF too and it's a nightmare getting nice bras. I have quite a nice underwired white Anita bra that I got from Figleaves, but the black version doesn't come in 36H (WTF?!) so I'm stuck with white.

All the rest in H, even on Figleaves, are frumpy and horrible.

beanlet · 08/08/2010 17:43

(oh and prob not the best idea to squeeze into a G it's how my sister got mastitis, ow!)

NeverPushWhenItSaysPull · 08/08/2010 19:26

I found that nursing bras didn't come in my size with underwires. I'm a 36J. I may as well not wear a bra if it's not underwired. So, I cut the clips off some old nursing bras, cut the straps on the underwired bras I wanted to wear and stitched on the clips. It made feeding DD so much easier than DS and I BF much longer, suffered no ill effects from the wires and could wear pretty, matching underwear. (Well, as pretty as underwear comes in a J cup... Hmm) I couldn't get away with them in black but most other colors worked with the white clips.

Scaredycat3000 · 08/08/2010 19:54

Right, these are my thoughts on 34H nursing bras they are crap.

I second beanlet, also the double boob look is so last season..........

1st choice if I had my time again would be to do as NPWISP says. So long as the under wired bra fits perfectly you should have no problems. You will also look and feel much better.

Just trying to find one in your size is bad enough. Most bras up to our size are sized incorrectly. You need to compare i.e. D=D, E=DD, F=E, G=F, H=FF, etc. If their sizing looks wrong, it is.
The NCT ones will go up to your size, easy to match plan black pants Grin, but not very pretty and very generous in the cup.
I found one that wasn't black/white/pink from here.

Bravissimo do correct sizes, but very limited range. Yes to brastop, if you're lucky enough to get your size.

After over a year of BF I have given in and worn normal bras, feel much better, the rash has cleared up and look better.

Freya Dotty, and Royce Lauren are the nicest and best fit/shape of a limited range over G cup. They also have matching bottoms. Most Royce styles are quite tight in the band whereas the Freya is very generous.

EldonAve · 08/08/2010 20:52

I am another who has converted underwired bras

Fibilou · 08/08/2010 21:00

Another vote here for HotMilk - very nice and generously sized

Fibilou · 08/08/2010 21:01

And I'm sure Hotmilk go up to a G - I've got a 40FF from them

Porcelain · 08/08/2010 22:39

How about www.emily-lingerie.com/nursing-bras.html to be added to the list.
