to think that people who complain about textspeak are

pompous, pedantic, dinosaurs who cannot accept that the English language constantly changes.

And as for people who pretend they don't know what it says when they clearly do....don't get me started.

Anyone who corrects anyone's spelling, punctuation or grammar or complains about textspeak (unless correcting someone who corrects others to point out that they are not perfect) just makes themselves look like a massive arse.

Discuss.

SGM I am being judgemental but I'm basing my judgement on people's conduct rather than how they spell things.

OP you didn't write your post in textspeak so I take it you're not a fan? You used proper current "English" presumably becaouse you wanted MN'er to be able to read and understand your post without hurting their heads.
So I don't get what you are on about really.

Or did you not write the post in txtspeak so that you could communicate effectively with us?

What is your point?

expatinscotland · 08/08/2010 19:00

In your mind that's much more superior, so that makes it okay then.

Hmm
milliemoosmum · 08/08/2010 19:01

Expat let it go - you wouldn't want people to think you've got "issues" now would you?

OP posts:
FindingMyMojo · 08/08/2010 19:02

txtspeak is for people who can't figure out how to use predective txt. Fair enough & enough said.

milliemoosmum · 08/08/2010 19:03

And for the record I do think it is a better basis to judge someone on yes.

usualsuspect · 08/08/2010 19:18

That says everything I want to say in my own language. If you can't read it it's your fault.

(sorry about the use of the word g98e, but I do feel very strongly about sklsr.)

I HATE text speak Infact Ive got family members as friends on FB who use it a lot in status's (as they are in early to mid 20's) and it really grates on me.

I too skip any posts that are in text speak as I really cant be bothered to decifer it all.

Oh and half the time I honestly dont know what it says so to say OP that I really do is an insult to me as I dont pretend, I really dont know, but then again I dont want to know. It just looks like the writer is thick. I read proper words NOT stupid shortened versions. It worries me that one day that will be the new english language and I wont have a clue what is being said. Hopefully IF it does I'll be long gone.

"bjwjrw8rg g9 g98e meriwjwofw7 n fgiwreigw ti43i4fw9flkkrwk sklsr"

For a second TigyD, I thought that was modified using rot13 (popular for older USENET users) but it didn't transalte to anything more useful.

I'd better not ask (or guess) what it means, though.

Text speak is code like any other. We even use code on Mumsnet such as DS, DD, DP, DH etc.

Like fartblossom, I will skip posts with a lot of text speak in them as it's painful to translate it.
