DD has been asked (repeatedly) to clean her room since 9am this morning.
She's now gone off ice skating with friends and they are all coming back here for snacks afterwards.

I've just gone up to her room and she hasn't done a thing. Dirty clothes all over the floor, rubbish everywhere etc.

So I've gathered up all her dirty underwear and hung them on a pole out of her bedroom window.

Later, I'll clean her room and pay myself £6 an hour, by raiding her piggybank.

YABU. The room should have been checked before she was allowed to go out, if it was so important.

The knickers thing is an appalling thing to do - if you are telling the truth about this, then I think it is outrageous.

And taking money from her piggybank is also unacceptable I think - how would you feel if she took money from your purse.

Don't clean the room yourself. Just give her no more 'treats' eg: going out, laptop time, whatever, until she has cleaned it.

And same again tomorrow and the next and so on. That way, she may begin to keep it more tidy.

When my DD leaves clothes all over the floor (she has a laundry basket!) I put them all on her bed and she has to sort out clean from dirty before she gets into bed. The inconvenience usually prompts her to use the laundry basket and fold her clothes for at least a few days. However the rest of the room is a fucking dump and makes me want to scream.

Isn't that what doors are for? I just close eldest DD's and then pretend to myself it's as tidy as the rest of the house!

I can't be doing with the hassle, I clean it (along with the rest of the house) but the mess just gets dumped in a corner or the door closed on it.

I think the underwear thing is pretty mean though, your DD will be very embarrassed.
