To take my children to Ikea as it's raining just for fun?

Well we did anyway. It was peeing it down all day. We had fun in all the roomsets, pretending to be a different family in each. DS's are 3 and 8. They loved it, it was hilarious, DS's could not stop laughing eg: 3yo made cakes with worms whilst 8yo sat at a kitchen table and they read the catalogue in bed under a duvet singing in another.

Meatballs and chips for lunch all round - A CHEAP FUN AFTERNOON OUT!!!

Oh Lord! Sounds like they had fun and that's quite a resourceful way of entertaining them. I'm not sure how the other shoppers would have felt about it though.

Shop are not, after all, a playground.

YANBU, I did this a couple of times a few years ago, and even put them into the creche thingy - they loved it, I got an hour to wander round store, bought a couple of things and then we all had lunch. Great few hours for all, and Ikea benefitted too!

I used to put mine in the creche when they were littlies.

DS used to call it the 'arrow shop' and loved going there.

I do it quite a bit! My kids are HE, so we go during school term when all is quiet. I put the kids in the play centre for an hour, and meet a friend in the cafe for a peaceful (though not delicious) coffee.

Should I be ?

I figure that if they only wanted actual shoppers to use the play centre, it wouldn't be hadr to make you present a reciept when you collected the children. But they don't!

We love zooming around the warehouses under the stacks on trollies!
And we love pretending to be different families in different rooms - it's most excellent fun.

IKEA is a cool playground

We used to take ds when he was little, as he liked the children s play area.

We were at Ikea tonight, and I asked him if he remembered that, and he does.(he's grown now)

yanbu if ikea was closer to me i would do this regularly as my lo's are 12 6 and 20 months and can all find something to occupy them and the food is really cheap

YABU, why would anyone go to IKEA anyway, especially for fun? You are setting yourslevs up for a dissapointment.

I do this about once a fortnight! On wednesdays the meatballs and chips are only ?1.50, free coffee, free play bit, we buy a few candles or fabric or some baking kit, everyones happy!

Do this regularly, often go for dinner on Friday night...I know how to have a good time

We have done it. IKEA is really close to work, so if we go on my days off (I work part time) we pop into work on the way home, for everyone to coo over DS (2 next month) and my team see me as a Lovely Mummy, not Scary Team Leader.

mine is at the stage where she loves playing house, and is more than happy to come along. I think the Chuckle Brothers routine that DH and I normally end up performing in the warehouse ("to me, to you, ow!") also adds to the entertainment factor.
