to be really pissed off at the person who broke a toy, carefully put it back in the packaging so it looked fine and returned it to the shop?

Whereupon I bought it as something to amuse my DS on a 6 hour journey to our holiday. What a mean bastardy thing to do

I wondered why the packaging had sellotape around it. Imagine if you'd bought it for a present for someone? You'd be mortified

yanbu

Also, the person who bought a tester pot from homesbase and returned it, used.

SloanyPony · 04/08/2010 15:37

How do you break toys though...there are several particularly irritating ones I have tried to break, to no avail...

minipie · 04/08/2010 15:39

YANBU

TBH I'd be equally annoyed at the shop who didn't spot this though. I mean surely shops should check returns to make sure they are still saleable?

nagoo · 04/08/2010 15:48

Gah! Karma will avenge you!

LadyBiscuit · 04/08/2010 15:48

Well to break a plastic Ted (out of Postman Pat)'s torso in half, I think probably stamping on it would do the trick.

Yes I suppose the shop should check but to be honest if the stuff is still all in its packaging and looks unopened then I can see why they wouldn't bother. And also really, what kind of saddo breaks and returns a £5 toy? When they know another kid is going to open it? If I were the shop owner I wouldn't think anyone could possibly be that mean-spirited but I'm clearly hopelessly naive

never by anything with sellotape on the packet!

Glitterknickaz · 04/08/2010 15:55

Or the person at homebase who decided to put a gazebo back on the shelf with a piece missing and not mark it so.

haggisaggis · 04/08/2010 15:57

I once bought a leapfrog learning game as part of dd's Christmas from Woolies. The kind where you have a book which you put on the player and then trace with a pencil. Packaging was fine. Decided I should put the batteries in before I wrapped it - and discovered the book was alraedy covered in pencil marks and the player covered in hair!

bigfishlittlefishcardboardbox · 04/08/2010 16:26

Uuuurgh! I ALWAYS ALWAYS AAAAALLLLLLLLLLWAAAAAAAYS buy the broken/open/smashed/mouldy/out of date/holey item. All the fucking time. And I never notice it until it's too late.

venusonarockbun · 04/08/2010 17:17

This happens to me. I always get second hand/returned stuff sold to me as new from a well known high street catalogue store. From now on I am going to refuse anything brought to me with sellotape on the packaging.

create · 04/08/2010 17:30

Is it the customers or the shop though? I.e did the customer return it because it was broken and the shop boxed it up and returned it to the shelf?

LadyBiscuit · 04/08/2010 17:34

I suspect it was the customer. It's clearly been trodden on and the shop would be able to get a refund from their supplier.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 05/08/2010 16:54

It wouldnt be the shop. it's much, much easier to box up broken/damaged packaging than it is to try and resell. Hell in the past ive been known to kick a box down the stairs because it wouldnt fit on the shelf in the stockroom and it would be easier to just send it back to the warehouse than having it lying around getting in my way.

lazarusb · 05/08/2010 19:26

I was in New Look (!!!!) last week as dd was on a desperate for shoes day, she picked up a pair for the bargain price of £2- I pointed out that while one was size 2, the other was size 5. WHY WHY were they out on sale (no matching either)

KurriKurri · 05/08/2010 19:30

I once bought DD a school skirt from M&S and when I got it home I found someone else had sewn their kid's name tags in it!

Sorry about your toy OP - it is mean.

ArseHolio · 05/08/2010 19:33

You think that's bad.

I bought a toilet seat from B&Q and when I got it out of the packet it was one which had already been used !
