to wear a miniskirt to a school reunion?

Seen so many serious threads I thought I'd lighten the atmosphere..
In a fit of 'almost back to pre-pregnancy weight - wahey!' I purchased an extremely short skirt in a sale - I suspect it was made more for those who have just finished A-levels than a thirtysomething mother, but it did fit quite well and my legs are in reasonable shape.

A school reunion is coming up and I'm sorely tempted to wear it for the craic - or should I repeat to myself 'just because you can, doesn't mean you should?' and wear something sensible and slightly matronly?

Don't you DARE wear anything matronly!

I was still wearing short skirts in my 30s. I had the figure for it and they made me feel confident, back to my old self and not just a mum.

Now I'm in my mid 40s and can no longer get away with it, my only regret is that I didn't wear them more often. What I wouldn't do to turn back the clock!

Have a LOVELY time at your reunion in your sassy short skirt.

If you've got the legs (and the shoes ) do it!

atswimtwolengths · 31/07/2010 23:47

Ok I think you should be cautious. I've heard that school reunions are one of the bitchiest events you can go to (have heard this, haven't actually gone to one) so before you wear that skirt, ask a friend who you can rely on for absolutely honest advice - and take the advice!

But so jealous... thirty something, weight loss, mini-skirt...

I agree with atswimtwolengths - ask a friend who you trust to give you a 100% honest opinion first - if you have fantasic legs do it, if they're just 'good for your age' don't!

There's a lot of clothing to choose from between a micro mini and matronly

If it is suitable for the venue and dress code, go for it.

i'd go for a latex cat suit, make em jealous!

Wear it but tone it down. You don't want everyone you're trying too hard. Go for effortless chic.

sanielle · 01/08/2010 11:39

Sorry I agree with MaudofallHopefulness...

Think a mini skirt would look like you were trying too hard. Hopefully they will be grown up enough not to be bitchy but surely they will be thinking it. Unless it is being held in a night club, try and wear something a bit more appropriate. You will also feel better if everyone is more formally dressed and you are not there exposed I think, even if your legs are amazing! )

HecateQueenOfWitches · 01/08/2010 11:43

No. Wear something classy and elegant. That makes far more of an impact than merely showing off lots of flesh - even if you have got amazing legs!

renegadesoundwave · 02/08/2010 15:48

That's the problem Hecate - nothing remotely classy and elegant in my wardrobe since I've been BF - hence the short skirt!

Have totally failed to find anything suitable for BF which actually fits me everywhere else (I'm very short indeed so baggy T-shirts and shirts are definitely out). I do miss my vintage dresses...

Mind you, around here you're dressed up if you wear jeans rather than dirty trackie bottoms, so on that basis my old running T-shirt and some paint-splattered trousers may well hit the right note

If you're very short then I think a mini skirt with some pretty gladiator sandals and a simple-ish top plus good accessories could be perfect.

Post pics on here and we can give you verdict?

lucky1979 · 02/08/2010 17:08

I'd do it if you're confident in it! Team it with flats and a pretty top so you don't look like you're trying too hard, definitely don't wear anything low cut or 4 inch heels!
