There was a 300 yard queue outside the bookshop 3 hours before she is due for the signing at 5pm today. I can see why she is worth £30m. Jordan really knows how to work our fame culture in England. Is she BIG in other countries?

Your opinion, Aitch.

I am anything but anti-feminist, and it seems that it is you who are unable to accept an opinion different to your own.

Aitch · 01/08/2010 18:00

petulantly put, reasonabledoubt.

i'm very interested in opinions other than my own, i just haven't heard any that aren't paper thin on this thread. haven't heard any from you, tbh, other than that you disapprove of us expressing a strong opinion about her because we are women and you find women with an opinion discomfiting.

no idea what gabyloggon is talking about but i like her name.

MilaMae · 01/08/2010 18:12

Aitch's 9.25 post is a prime example of what I find so disturbing re the way some women attack KP.

That post is a tirade containing very little substance, nothing in it warrants the venom. It's basically a post tirade over errr nothing.

Prior to KP and PA's union PA was a washed up talentless ex pop star. She was the draw to I'm a Celebrity being in the papers consistently, most of the viewers of said show wouldn't have even heard of PA,not so KP. I hate to say it but I'm pretty sure PA only got together with KP to further his career having seen the limelight she attracted.

As for Claire "repositioning her as a heroic mum of disabled son",KP has always been a mum of a disabled son nannies or not, pretty sure she doesn't need anybody to "reposition" her to know that.

I really hate the "Jordan started partying immediately" braying-so what. She was dumped, are mums not allowed to go out and get blasted occasionally anymore, particularly after having been dumped by your husband? Believe you me if I had half her money and was dumped in the same we I'd be off on the next plane with a load of friends PDQ.

Pretty sure PA did his own share of partying and shagging,oh yes he did didn't he and it got on the front pages but for some reason he's still seen as a victim even then and KP having found herself a nice chap(good to her and her kids)lunk or not is seen as an evil cow even
when she decides to settle down with said chap.

This is what I dislike and found very distasteful,it's a witch hunt nothing more and nothing less.

Aitch · 01/08/2010 18:30

gawd, what a simplistic understanding of what i posted...

1 i don't dispute that PA did nicely out of his association with KP, not at all, however his sappy persona allowed her to tone down her act and lengthen her shelf life considerably. i said further down that i profoundly disagree with his exploitation of his children.

2 the repositioning i refer to is with regard to the KP brand, which is the point i was answering.

3 i don't give a monkey's if she's off partying after getting dumped, however (and this was clearly the point i was making) her destruction of the 'mum' brand puts a question mark over her astute businesswoman status.

4 whether PA was out shagging or not is of no interest to me, but by appearing heartbroken and only interested in the wellbeing of his kids he (because his image was being skilfully managed by Claire Whatever) has come out best in the media battle. that KP hasn't is down to her inability to manage her image, which rather suggests, yet again, that she is not as responsible for her own financial success as some would have it.

you understand i don't know the woman? i'm commenting on her 'admirable' qualities and otherwise, and passing judgement on behaviour that she herself has broadcast on national television. i feel no particular emotion towards her other than pity, and i think that you would seriously struggle to prove otherwise with a close reading of my posts on this thread.

expatinscotland · 01/08/2010 20:26

Why on Earth are grown women taking so personally and getting so amazingly het up over comments from strangers about someone who is a complete stranger to them?

I hope you don't read the Daily Mail comments about her, they could easily trigger a heart attack in her fans.

'are mums not allowed to go out and get blasted occasionally anymore,'

I don't see the appeal of it myself, there's no law against it, but it doesn't do such people, men or women, any big favours in general. SIL's partner was dumped. So he went and got blasted. And wound up in a car accident in which his neck was broken.

What a great way to handle a bad situation! How admirable! Be an adult or act like a typical British teen and show the world you live up to every single stereotype they have of the entire country. Way to go!

Who said stereotypes are all wrong?

sleepingsowell · 01/08/2010 20:55

totally agree with aitch. If KP was so clever as all that she would have been much different in the aftermath of her split

I don't agree with whoever said that PA was 'washed up and talentless' btw - he at least has musical creativity and can sing, ok he's not setting the world alight with it but he has a voice and writes songs - compared to KP whose career was built on showing her breasts I don't think you could call him talentless!

I think KP benefitted hugely from Claire Thing (as we are calling her)!and has been quite lost since in terms of her public persona. She is definitely someone who needs assertive managing in PR terms it seems.

sleepingsowell · 01/08/2010 21:21

and - maybe I'm sucking a lemon here unecessarily, but people like KP do worry me. Because there are girls out there whose highest level of aspiration in life will be to 'be like' her - which in the harsh reality of life boils down to valuing yourself on your looks, dressing like a sex worker, relating to all males in a way that's based solely on your gender/looks, having babies....all lovely for KP and the source of multi million pounds for her but it's very limiting for 'real' girls out there and - what does it really get them in life?

ReasonableDoubt · 01/08/2010 21:32

I made my main point on this thread yonks ago.

The only thing I would add is perhaps that the media who have made KP into a star because she has big plastic tits and shags footballers - the same media that adore ripping her to shreds in foul Daily Mail-style articles about what a Bad Mother (read: Whore) she is - is the culprit here.

The anti-woman sentiment of almost all of the tabloid media, right wing press and (sadly) women's magazine publishing is foul, and the tirades against KP on this thread echo it, in my opinion.

And in defence of myself, I don't think my comments are 'petulant'. Aitch, you obviously feel very strongly about KP, and your tone reflects that, and I was just responding to your strength of feeling and with a different viewpoint. I'm not particularly interested in whether my opinion is the popular one on MN. I make my own mind up about people.

sleepingsowell · 01/08/2010 21:42

Agree- the media will serve up this stuff and people will buy it....it's a salutary reminder to keep talking to our kids about these issues; to ensure that they can view the media building up and knocking down the KP type slebs with an informed understanding of the issues involved in the whole picture.

I have to say though on a lighter note I saw the last show of KPs when she was on honeymoon and she was throwing a wobbly and threatening to go home if any pap dared to take her photo because she was on honeymoon, and on a 'private' holiday - all the while being filmed by a camera crew for national TV. Priceless.

MilaMae · 01/08/2010 21:42

Well put posts Reasonable, they pretty much sum up my views and uncomfortable feelings when reading the unrelenting vitriol in a far more succinct way.

Aitch · 01/08/2010 21:46

i didn't say your posts were petulant, i was commenting on your preceding comment as you very well know. and you make a good point about the media, might have been interesting if you'd talked about that rather than lectured the rest of us.

BrandyAlexander · 01/08/2010 21:50

KP is clearly a damaged woman, nonetheless I give her credit for the financial position she has managed to create for herself given she appears to have no natural talent but her talent appears to be understanding what (a section of) the British public want and making money out of it. She may not be my cup of tea but she's clearly not an idiot. Damaged yes, idiot no.

traceybath · 01/08/2010 21:50

I totally agree with Aitch with regards to her not being that astute a businesswoman.

Her old manager was the 'brains' - you only how to see how well she's doing currently with Kerry Katona.

Must confess to watching her reality show though - mostly with a face like this - its compulsively entertaining.

But its sad viewing really - no-one in it seems very happy.

Aitch · 01/08/2010 21:52

i've just re read my posts and i'm just not seeing huge 'strength of feeling', btw. you should see me when i give a shit about something if you think this is me impassioned...

AlisonDubois · 01/08/2010 22:00

I just pray to God every single day that my DD does not turn out like this awful woman.
I don't care how much money she has...she is a bad role model for young vulnerable girls who see her as some kind of demi-god.

expatinscotland · 01/08/2010 22:06

I'd feel I failed as a mother if either of my daughters turned out like KP. I really would. I'd be very disappointed to have produced such a seemingly nasty, mean-spirited, shallow person, too.

Aitch · 01/08/2010 22:17

the real question is, though, why people queue for eight hours to see her? truly our culture has become degraded beyond all repair.

scottishmummy · 01/08/2010 22:25

cant see appeal of kp- she's orange plastic titted, stretched, sprayed, primped within an inch of her life.gross

expatinscotland · 01/08/2010 22:25

My sentiments exactly, Aitch. DH saw that on ITV and just shook his head. FGS. They also showed all the debris and rubbish leftover.

I wouldn't be surprised in the Tories use it all in their next election campaign.

scottishmummy · 01/08/2010 22:30

kp fans vociferous defence of her always make me laugh.cant see she has any laudable features what so ever

UnquietDad · 01/08/2010 22:32

I don't buy the "astute businesswoman" thing either. People say the same thing about Jodie Marsh, who is perhaps slightly more intelligent, but what they both have in comon is that they are managed by astute and intelligent and media-savvy people.

Pricey Kate, I imagine, just sits in an office, looks through an itinerary and says "Yeah, yeah, that looks good, cool, yeah, wot-ev-uh. Lincoln, wherezat then? I got time ter fit me botox and tannin' in?"

AlisonDubois · 01/08/2010 22:33

I remember watching her on TV when she married PA. He looked terrified in case she threw a fit over some menial thing, and he basically spent his whole married life with her walking on eggshells. If she treated him that badly in front of the cameras, God knows what she was like when they were switched off!
Role model my arse.

Aitch · 01/08/2010 22:35

yes, alison, the episodes i saw, well let's just say if it had been a man treating a woman like that we'd all have been rallying round and encouraging her to start a wee savings account for the day she leaves...

UnquietDad · 01/08/2010 22:36

I interviewed a young girl-band earlier in the year (no, not that one) and they obviously were pretty bright. You could tell as soon as they opened their mouths. They knew what the business entailed, were not afraid of the hard work (early starts and some pretty grinding drives up and down motorways to dull clubs and student nights to sing their three singles over and over again) and seemed to have their heads screwed on thoroughly well. They didn't expect any "celebrity" treatment and didn't get it, beyond some fruit and biscuits in the Green Room. They were thoroughly cool and I liked them a lot. Big contrast with the likes of Pricey.

scottishmummy · 01/08/2010 22:38

jodie marsh makes me think body dysmorphia.feel sad when i see her, shes a vulnerable damaged woman

kp comes across graspy, brassy and self interested
