There was a 300 yard queue outside the bookshop 3 hours before she is due for the signing at 5pm today. I can see why she is worth £30m. Jordan really knows how to work our fame culture in England. Is she BIG in other countries?

I don't really care what she does; I'd rather she made money out of what she does than being on benefits. I don't think she is a particularly astute businesswoman, I think a lot of people make money out of her and a by-product of that is that she also becomes rich. I think she probably has a lot of psychological problems and I am baffled that people want to watch these being displayed on national telly, but whatever. No one is actually being harmed. She doesn't bother me - yes she is on the telly and trashy mags all the time, but I don't watch it or read them so it passes me by.

sorky · 31/07/2010 21:28

Well said Aitch, jealous my arse!

Aitch · 31/07/2010 21:41

tbh 'u is only jellus' is such a non-point here in any case. all we're doing is commenting on what the woman actually does ON HER OWN SHOW. it's indisputable that she is nasty and undermining, because she's there, on the telly, being nasty and undermining. and as for a good mother... well tbh i dunno about that, i do remember being completely shocked to see her joke with her heart-broken child about having killed his pet. certainly not something i'll be copying i don't think.

mangoandlime · 31/07/2010 21:58

Why don't you all jus be done with it and have her burnt at the stake? Might make you feel better.

Aitch · 31/07/2010 22:01

is there something wrong with those people who like katie price, that they can't engage in a debate at all?

who here wants a young mother, however unpleasant in character, burned at the stake?

nope... me neither.

mangoandlime · 31/07/2010 22:05

Oh, it was a light hearted joke, do lighten up! I'm not a fan but she doesn't deserve all this vitriol. You've had your opinion, that's mine!

did you, mango? what was your opinion again regarding katie price and her role model status?

expatinscotland · 31/07/2010 22:26

LOL, Beer. I'm so surprised. NOT.

no schleb (plastic titted fembot or not) is a role model.we are all individual responsible for our choices.obviously peer/class/cultural factors impact.buy a specific schleb isnt responsible for someone else actions

like the deniseVO feeding thread people claiming her feeding actions would influence how new mums feed.nope.

comingclean · 31/07/2010 23:12

Yes the use of the word "astute" is laughable when applied to KP. So she does the books, the equestrian line, the underwear, the baby clothes etc. and people think that qualifies her as being an astute business woman? All that implies is that she has enough people assembled around her who know how to flog a dead horse and she will say Yes to absolutely anything. She's a cash cow to a lot of people particularly those god awful, bleached-blonde "stylists" and make-up artists that follow her around to make her look like she has friends.

scottishmummy · 01/08/2010 00:39

interestingly, have seen the KP a femminist role model hypothesis put forward-own money, business woman trading a brand, not reliant on anyone else

doesnt cut it for me,but am aware of the kp massif

Aitch · 01/08/2010 09:25

i do think it bears thinking about though, but like you say, cuts no ice if you actually pay attention to her career. it was most definitely just soft porn, ever-increasing tits and celebrity shagging before she did iacgmooh, where Jordan came across tough as nuts fairly well. her relationship with peter andre is what swung everything in her favour, because it was through him that she accessed claire whatever-her-name-is, who had been his manager forever.

it was this claire woman, by all accounts, who started to reposition her as 'heroic mum of disabled child and basic good egg', which got them the reality show, which then allowed the massive brand expansion and full transfer to Katie Price.

look how badly she's doing since the divorce... if she was an astute businesswoman she'd have played her role differently, more wronged, more struggling, more tears. instead, claire thing positioned andre as that guy for a good six months.

jordan started shagging and partying immediately, and then publicly took up with a big dumb lunk before her kids had time to know what had just happened. she's completely tarnished her katie price brand.

so no, i don't think so astute, really. she has some brains, god knows, and a good instinct for publicity, but she is not nuanced as to the type of publicity that is best for her brand, imo.

ReasonableDoubt · 01/08/2010 10:52

I don't 'like' Katie Price. I hate that whole stupid, vacuous celeb culture. I am, I think. what you would call a pretty strdent feminist and I abhor the fact that so many young girl look up to people like KP.

But I just don't feel the need to engage in reams and reams of spiteful 'she's disgusting, she's horrific, she's a bad mother' type stuff.

Aitch · 01/08/2010 10:55

and you think that is what is going on here? i don't.

NestaFiesta · 01/08/2010 10:59

" if she was an astute businesswoman she'd have played her role differently, more wronged, more struggling, more tears. . "

-Aitch- I couldn't have put it better myself. She spat on her own doorstep there.

ReasonableDoubt · 01/08/2010 11:24

Yes I do. And almost every time her name is mentioned. There is a chorus of 'Can't stand the trollop!' comments that make me feel uncomfortable. Just look at the first few posts on this thread. 'Revolting', 'vile' etc. I don't personally think it's called for.

Dinkytinky · 01/08/2010 11:35

I've held off Reading this thread because I do think the woman is horrible, the way she speaks to people etc is awful!
But my maaaajor gripe is her using things like her alleged rape, alleged skin cancer alleged miscarriages etc etc to sell magazines is utterly sick.
If she really had cancer (apparently in her little finger) would she really be promoting the use of sunbeds? If she did she's out and out irresponsible, it's a slap in the face to actual cancer sufferers. As my niece put it 'she's ick'

Aitch · 01/08/2010 11:44

what she has done to her body is revolting, imo, no doubt about it. she does act in a vile manner to the people around her, no doubt about that either.

this is what i don't understand about the 'i don't like her but you're not allowed to say bad things about her' camp. you know we're commenting on her television show, which she claims is an utterly fair and accurate representation of her life and personality? she makes a big play of the fact that it's warts 'n' all, but we aren't to comment on the warts, is that it?

ReasonableDoubt · 01/08/2010 11:46

I'm not in any camp. I think it's fair comment to criticise her on many fronts - like I said, i am not a fan - I just don't like the generally vicious attitude that pours out of other women when they talk about her. It's deeply unpleasant.

expatinscotland · 01/08/2010 11:47

Well, I think anyone who behaves like this is revolting, vile and disgusting, regardless of gender, race, age, creed, etc.

So sue me.

Aitch · 01/08/2010 12:05

exactly expat. the idea that we shouldn't voice our opinion on her because all women who have opinions are harpies is such anti-feminist rubbish.

GabbyLoggon · 01/08/2010 16:28

Prior to Katie did you think Capitalism was nice? How about bankers. (and I do mean bankers.)

Katherine Whitehorn said "There is no such thing as clean money"

A bit strong maybe. But all big money does seem to have a very secretive side.

I wonder why? cheers

'Prior to Katie did you think Capitalism was nice? How about bankers. (and I do mean bankers.)'

No. I have always found it morally bankrupt, corruptive and compassionless.

I'm nearly 40. Katie hasn't been around that long.
