My eldest dd (5) is becoming more and more interested in music and music videos.
So at various times through the day (depending on the weather) I flick through the music channels and stop at songs she (and me) like and along with the twins we bop round the living room.

Having done this for the last few days I have come to the conclusion that all music videos these days have to have scantily clad women in them.
Some of them are more naked than others (obviously), Beyonce single ladies is a favourite, good song, good dancing, and little leotards?? Ok, so dancing is good and whilst there is bootie shaking its not to bad...
But the new Nickleback song?? have you seen the video?
I actually like the song as I have a soft spot for songs I can actually sing along to, but I can not watch the video as it really annoys me.
Also the black eyed peas, i gotta feeling, fab song, kids love it...but the video always makes me feel uncomfortable if the kids are around.

I don't have a problem with sex/sexy images at all, but it seems to be every good song has to have near naked women (note not men) in the video.

So am i getting old? Or would you like to add your video pet hate to my list? I await your judgement...

it makes me physically bristle when all these cookie-cutter vids have near-naked women writhing around in them and fully dressed men

objectifying shit

grrr

Nickleback....arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Pop music videos have alot of tits and arse, always has been that way, worse now though.

I'm kind of thankful I have a 15 year who likes emo stuff and a 7 year old who likes ironman/transformers soundtracks.

Beyonce is one of the worst offenders, IMO

Although it seems she can do no wrong

poorbuthappy · 28/07/2010 23:22

Yes Beyonce can be one of the worst, but as dd has only seen the single lady video which to be fair has no men in it, therefore no one to grind against, I sort of let it pass!

and Shakira.

AnyFucker · 28/07/2010 23:24

christ, yeah

it seems all you need is a very flexible spine and a chubby bum and you have it made

poorbuthappy · 28/07/2010 23:24

thank christ for that AF, I wondered what to do with myself once the twins go to school

start practicing the booty wobble right now

unfortunately I have a flat bum, so no prospects for me

Floopy21 · 29/07/2010 09:58

I felt a bit queasy when I saw my niece & nephew (3 & 5) trying to wiggle like the women on these videos. Too much, too young.

MathsMadMummy · 29/07/2010 10:02

I agree with you OP (and I'm 23 BTW!) it's nasty

one of the many reasons we don't have cable/sky, no music channels to worry about!

Did the slut-pop vid all start with 'Like a Virgin' by Madonna...? Can anyone think of an earlier example? I think my least favourite was the much parodied Britney Spears vid for 'Hit Me Baby One More Time'... the school uniform and bunches thing was just embarrassing.

Well, I play Radio 2 through the tv. No music videos and dd still gets to dance.

If the music is just too duff I flick to another radio station.
