to get annoyed at people who let their DC stand in supermarket trollies?

I just think that it is disgusting when you see people letting their DC put filthy feet and shoes (which could have walked in poo) inside the trollies where I am going to be putting my FOOD instead of sitting them in the seat or letting them actually use their legs and WALK.

How many of your food items are not wrapped in either packaging or their own skins..?

Plus they are being handled by spotty yoofs at the till anyay... YABU.

GetOrfMoiLand · 28/07/2010 17:31

Oh here we go...

stripeyknickersspottysocks · 28/07/2010 17:31

I agree with you, the food may be in plastic/containers but then those containers go in my fridge and cupboards. There's no need for it.

AnnoyingOrange · 28/07/2010 17:32

I hate it too - but plenty of people on here seem to think it's OK

southeastastra · 28/07/2010 17:33

i too hate it - if they're too big for the seats let them walk fgs

differentID · 28/07/2010 17:33

I agree with you, and quite recently a poster here said about her 2 children tipping the trolley over while they were climbing on it and a younger child getting injured iirc?

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 28/07/2010 17:33

I let my DS stand in the deep shopping trolley and he has never had poo on his feet, on them. He has great fun, he is 2yrs old and if it keeps him quiet then so be it.

IME most food is contained within something which is contained within a shopping bag so no problem with germs there for me. Anyway how is it any different to placing your shopping in the boot of your car where buggies go, dirty wheels, no? Or in the foot wells, or on the floor of your kitchen/hall when you bring them in?

I think you should chill out.

I dont do it but really can't get bothered about it. There is so much else to annoy me in a supermarket, which is why I dont do supermarkets. Children in trollies are the least of my worries.

juneybean · 28/07/2010 17:34

A bit of dirt never did no harm

AmazingBouncingFerret · 28/07/2010 17:34

Yes but food is packaged.
I'd be more worried at the amount of dirty feckers that dont wash there hands after going to the toilet or sneeze into their hands and then put their dirty yucky hands all over the handle of the trolley TBH...

scurryfunge · 28/07/2010 17:35

Provided it is an organic toddler in Waitrose, I don't care

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 28/07/2010 17:35

There is no way I could guide my toddler out through a busy shop, onto a busy car park and steer a heavy trolley so Yes-YABU.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 28/07/2010 17:35

their hands not there...

GetOrfMoiLand · 28/07/2010 17:35

Oh god by my last post i think i am turning into one of those 'this has been done to DEATH' tedious/twat like MNer

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 28/07/2010 17:35

Choice between screaming toddler in seat or quiet toddler in shopping trolley. I pick trolley. Sorry.

southeastastra · 28/07/2010 17:36

loose vegetables aren't always packaged neither is bread. i think it looks pretty dangerous too.

SirBoobAlot · 28/07/2010 17:37

A question to those of you who do - (seriously question, am not taking the piss!) What about the fact the supermarkets say you shouldn't let them? I always thought it was for safety reasons?

stripeyknickersspottysocks · 28/07/2010 17:37

But food in the carboot/footwell is in a plastic bag. I don't put the plastic bag in my fridge.

I'm sure when DD was 2yo she'd have loved it but I didn't do it. I don't let her do everything she'd love.

Supermarkets tend to have signs saying not to allow children in the trolley but hey, some people are just too important to pay attention to that.

mrsflux · 28/07/2010 17:38

Let's not even think about all the bird poop that might land on a trolley while it's outside. Or the rats which I'm sure have the run of the car park at night when it's empty.
It's not a good idea from a h&s point of view but it's up to you to keep your kids safe

ChippingIn · 28/07/2010 17:38

YABU

As AmazingBouncyFerret says - the handles are much more of a health hazzard.

I'd rather toddlers/small kids were mucking up the bottom of the trolleys (if you want to think about it that way, I'm not that bothered myself) than walking around the supermarkets getting knocked over by people not looking or swinging their baskets around!!

Imisssleeping · 28/07/2010 17:38

My 2 year old will sit in the seat at the moment but if the only way I could get round the supermarket was to let him stand in the trolley then that is what I would do.

He would be a nightmare running round the aisles, grabbing things, running away - aargh I couldn't cope
so yes YABVU
do you have children?

ReasonableDoubt · 28/07/2010 17:38

Are you taking the piss? Do you think the trolleys are clean until the moment some three old puts his grubby feet in there? Do me a favour!

Fartytowels · 28/07/2010 17:39

If you saw the dust and dirt at farms and distribution centres for raw foods then I fear the feet in the trolley would be the least of your worries. Most of my stuff goes straight into a big bag for life anyway and doesn't come into contact with the trolley at all.

If we can't get one of those "car-trolleys" at our supermarkets my son sometimes asks to sit in the trolley where he'll read a book quietly or chat to me. Mainly because he gets bored walking around, or lost in the aisles, or he's very tired after school - this then makes the visit to the supermarket 3 times as long. I online shop when I can but it's not always possible. He has to sit down, not stand and be quiet.

Oh and welcome to Mumsnet.

I'm assuming you're new or you'd have seen this posted about at least once a month!
