Ok, we have puppy, very settled but when I got him breeder agreed to have him back for weekend this month as I was away in London. All other holidays he is coming with us, but this has been booked for over a year. Last minute breeder tells me she cant help after all. All good kennels are booked! other 2 friends said they woulod help but pull out, one books a holiday another "forgot" she has a cat
another friend agreed to housesit and look after dog, and we have insuranced her on car so she can get around. Tonight she has texted me and said sorry got something come up, now cant do it!! We leave on Thursday!! Im sat here in tears and just dont know what to do now.

I would never dream of letting people down like this! everyone is happy to take my help but no one wants to help me in return

how old is it lisa? i MAY be able to help as long as it's housetrained and you don't mind it meeting some other family dogs (altho i will house sit - but it may need to spend time with my mum's dogs who are wholly sociable, working dogs)

Vallhala · 27/07/2010 23:36

Feel free to shoot the lot of 'em Lisa!

A couple of suggestions if you're stuck:

Post on DogPages, stating details of your dog's breed, age, jabs, whether neutered and behaviour towards other dogs, cats, kids and give your area, and appeal for help. Am happy to assist you in checking out any replies you get for suitability.

Likewise speak to breed rescue and any local independent rescues - they might know of either a dog-sitter or have a kindly volunteer who can help and would be able to reference them.

Any local mums from school who have dogs/are dog friendly who may be able to help?

Wish I could myself but having just taken Fish the foster GSD on, together with my own 2 dogs, it's a bit crowded here!

HTH.

Alambil · 27/07/2010 23:36

it... sorry - he

Vallhala · 27/07/2010 23:38

If you're in Herts, ring Heathlands rescue in Royston. They are very reputable and may be able to suggest a volunteer. In fact, I think they offer in their own home holiday care too... will go check.

Vallhala · 27/07/2010 23:39

Yep, they do! Details HERE

I can recommend them, they are very responsible and reputable.

lisad123isgoingcrazy · 27/07/2010 23:43

yes i know heathlands. I guess im a littlwe funny. I dont like stranger in my home (sorry lewisfan) and he was attacked by another dog quite badly at the weekend so his a little worried around big dogs atm.

If you have no luck Lisa, please give me a shout on Pets (easier to spot a message there as it doesn't have such a high number of threads) and I'll see who I can find for you. You're clearly not a million miles from my own area so that should help.

Good luck with Heathlands though.

PS, I want to borrow Lewisfan... though 2 GSD and a stroppy Lab x might be a different thing to a labradoodle pup!!

lisad123isgoingcrazy · 27/07/2010 23:56

thanks vallhala, i wouldnt mind if i was daft enough to thinkn a puppy was easy but we have made sure hhis not left too long, all other holidays are with him but i cant my friends are this unreliable

This has happened to me a couple of times. People have said they would be more than happy to look after my dogs but when I ask them they suddenly can't do it. Its very annoying as I never make promises I know I have no plans to keep.

I use Petpals now (www.petpals.com). They will place the dog with a family for however long you need or will look after the dog at your house. Its about £30 a day, which isn't cheap but I didn't want my dogs to be put in cages. Make sure you have full documentation for vaccinations etc though otherwise they won't take them.

HettiesMum · 28/07/2010 08:56

Aae you sorted out yet lisa ? I think it's appalling when people let you down like that. Let us know if you have found someone toc are for your puppy.
