... preventing mothers from clearing out all the broken toys in the bedroom? How am I ever going to get rid of the DCs junk now that they've seen Toy Story 3?

Yes, but you can't hand the Barbies with the terrible haircuts or the teddy bear covered with nail varnish to charity can you?

even with the best will in the world, you can't pass on broken toys though. charity shops won't sell on stuff that's knackered.

jeee, i can. i am ruthless. i have a regular clean out of toy boxes. it all goes in the bin/car boot/charity.
its so easy. can't understand why other parents find this hard.

lucykate · 26/07/2010 11:41

i think jeee most likely has no problem finding homes for old toys that are still in good condition and work. op is talking about all the broken knackered stuff, which if you turned up at a charity shop with, they are only going to say 'oh thanks, a bag of crap!' and chuck it.

point op is trying to make is toy story makes you feel bad about binning the crap!

ShirleyKnot · 26/07/2010 11:46

Surely you just box them up - TELL the children they're going to chrity/hospital/whatever and then put them in the bin?

LutyensCBA · 26/07/2010 11:55

Oh, dd has always been super-emotional about getting rid of toys way before Toy Story 3! She'd keep worrying, hoping that they'd been adopted by nice homes . I got over it by doing what ShirleyKnot said - I bag up the crap, tell her it's going to the baby of a nice woman in my office, and then quietly bin it.

You guys know that toys don't really come alive when adults aren't there don't you?

Just checking ....

lucykate · 26/07/2010 12:22

really

DreamTeamGirl · 26/07/2010 12:39

Maybe my kids have too much stuff but I have clearouts when they're at school, and they've never even noticed! Mind you - I wouldn't dream of chucking any of their "special" things - one of which is a bear that looks alarmingly like Lotsa - not sure he doesn't come to life at night actually.....
