well not exactly.
we are borrowing bil'c cottage for a week, which is nearer to where both bil's live than where we do.
but other bil wants to come and see us while we are there dh is so stressed about it all, mainly i fear cos he knows i will be cross and stressed. in fact it was me placating him about how his db will only be there for a short time, and it would save us having to drive up to him, and making the suggestion that he comes on a certain date, to join us for our holiday. ie. towards the end. sigh

So you don't get on then...

HecateQueenOfWitches · 26/07/2010 11:04

Why will it ruin your holiday?

SlartyBartFast · 26/07/2010 11:05

i dont know if it will ruin it, i dont know, it just seems wrong to join us without asking, just telling. sigh, he rung to find out the dates we were going, but ds didnt know

So he's a nice person who you get on well with and the issue is that he decided to come and be with you for a bit of your holiday instead of asking you if you'd mind if he did?

come on. tell auntie Hec the truth! There's History, right?

SlartyBartFast · 26/07/2010 11:09

ooh, there's always history ..

Agree it's rude to gatecrash other people's holidays, unless they've been specifically invited. My PIL constantly gatecrash DH's sister's family hols. Has happened last 3 years in a row (since GC were born), including Centre Parks, camping in Cornwall, Portugal and Spain!!! I'd be livid. They're great with the kids but drink A LOT.

madeindevon2 · 26/07/2010 14:57

hang on.
you are borrowing their cottage for free
BUT you dont want to see them?

madeindevon2 · 26/07/2010 14:58

ahhhh just re-read
its a different BIL

LuluF · 26/07/2010 15:07

I don't get this gatecrashing people's holidays thing (unless you're specifically invited, of course).

We suffer it with DH's family. They're all nice enough - but the minute you tell them you've booked it, they check the calendar and say 'We'll come and see you and we'll bring XXX, too'. I want to shout 'NOOOOOOOO! You're not invited!' but of course I don't.

We were going to go to visit DH's sister up North - but couldn't make it in the end. Other BIL has gone, and in a few days, other SIL is going, then by the end of the week another BIL is going too.

Family are just quite annoying sometimes. You have my sympathies.

DinahRod · 26/07/2010 15:18

My ILs do this! We went to a fab campsite last year, recommended in fact by MNers. I knew that ILs and aunt and uncle would invite themselves too (ok can live with that, the dcs love seeing them) but because I chose it they spent the entire 10 days finding fault and complainingg to me, argh! They also have to get there first to get the 'best' pitch.

Next hols we are renting a cottage!

LuluF · 26/07/2010 16:45

Do you think it's just ILs then? I might do it to them next time 'oh, where is it you're going? Oh lovely, we'll be there on the 8th for 2 days. Great.'

SlartyBartFast · 26/07/2010 18:46

ha ha, managed to get back to see this!
can't believe other il's do the same.

will have to ahve secret destination holidays in future.
i am definitely less annoyed with it all now, just as long as he is not there the whole time.
