To be a bit shocked by what i saw today.

I took DS's out today and shortly before we left I let the play in the splash zone.

DS2 had his shorts and t-shirt on as it was very very hot and sunny ds1 was in rolled up tracky bottoms and his t-shirt.

I was a bit shocked by a couple of things I saw.

1 was a little girl running around naked - which tbh made it difficult to take photos of DS1 and DS2 playing although i managed to avoid catching her in all but 1 photo and that one has been editted so she has now got black knickers on.

The other thing was a young girl possible 7yrs old in a tiny bikini who was crouched over the jets of the splash zone gyrating herself everytime the water shot upwards

Now while I wasn't directly watching her I could hear other people talking and finally one mentioned to her parents that this possibly wasn't the best thing for her to do in public.

I have to admit the 2nd thing was more shocking than the little girl running round.

A little girl running around naked - not a problem I would say. Depends how old, I guess. Under 5, fine. The second one, ahem, well, I guess a would be a bit but it's just an innocent reaction of a child to a nice feeling, it's not creepy or anything. Although I would feel uncomfortable about the fact she was doing it in public, and there might possible have been unsavoury types about.

Monty100 · 25/07/2010 22:58

Kids enjoying themselves.

misdee · 25/07/2010 22:59

i have a 7yr old.

one of the things i say the most is

'hands out of your knickers'

'leaves your bits alone please'

'not in public please'

i am not sure how she would react to water jets. probably the same as other little kids discovering what feels 'nice' to them.

naked kiddies dont bother me.

TheLadyEvenstar · 25/07/2010 22:59

Secunda 1st little girl was about 3 i would say
2nd one as you say yourself was probably not the place for her to be doing it..

My DS would spend his whole life naked if I let him.

GypsyMoth · 25/07/2010 23:00

just kids being kids....you're a mum, what shocked you? the fact they did it,or fact they were allowed to?

TheLadyEvenstar · 25/07/2010 23:01

They don't bother me as a rule but this was a splash park in a vast space where there were a lot of adults without children wandering about.

I think thats what worried me more than anything.

Ah 3 is fine to be in the noood I think. Maybe more common on the continent than here but to me they are just babies at that age.

misdee · 25/07/2010 23:01

oh no, 3yr olds running around naked, shocking

i had a hard time keeping clothes on my kids bewtween the ages of 1-5yrs old. any oppertunity to strip off they did. dd4 is just starting now, but her nappy confuses her lol.

TheLadyEvenstar · 25/07/2010 23:02

ILT X-posted,
as I say where I was were a lot of adults without children and I was just concerned tbh.

I do agree they were just children being children and having fun.

OP posts:
misdee · 25/07/2010 23:04

the adults with children could be the ones to worry about

i hate all this. they were kids being kids. leave them be.

TheLadyEvenstar · 25/07/2010 23:04

Misdee, I am not being a prude it was more the fact of adults being around without kids in the place we were and although I know not every adult is a peadophile you never know who is....yes I know I worry too much!

3 yo naked isn't a problem to me and was common in the park paddling pool when I was a child. Probably still is.

7 yo's parents should have distracted her and had a quiet word if necessary imo, just in case.

It's sad that you can't take photos of your own DC having fun for fear of inadvertantly catching on camera a child who is not far off a toddler having equal fun running naked in a children's area surrounded by parents, isn't it?

secunda · 25/07/2010 23:05

You do worry a little too much. Hardly anyone is a paedophile

nigglewiggle · 25/07/2010 23:05

Yes, you worry too much, and super-imposing pants on a photo is bonkers.

misdee · 25/07/2010 23:07

yes, you never know who is a paedo. it could be that nice family down the street who you think are ideal with their 2.4 kids and perfect life.

its not all weirdos hanging around parks and splash areas.

thisisyesterday · 25/07/2010 23:07

i have no problem with either of those things

we have a place near here that has a big area of water jets and i let my 2.5yr old and 1 ytr old play in it a while ago

there was another group of kids there too, about 5 of them ranging from 1-9/10

ALL of them (mine included) were standing over/sitting on the jets as they came up

fail to see the problem. kids having fun

BertieBotts · 25/07/2010 23:08

I let my DS (not quite 2) run around naked in public, if another parent happened to catch him naked in the background of a picture it wouldn't bother me. If it bothered me, I would put clothes on him. Of course if there was a shady looking person hanging around with a camera I'd probably cover him up!

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 25/07/2010 23:09

nothing that you have said sounds worrying

important that a 3 year old should be free without care.
the 7 year old, IMO only important that the parents are comfortable.

Oblomov · 25/07/2010 23:10

god we've had a spate of paedophile worried threads recently haven't we. camping. water jets.
there everywhere i tell you. no, they are not.

TheLadyEvenstar · 25/07/2010 23:10

Niggle, I sent the photos to family members so just covered the LO up in the pics.

Poshwellies · 25/07/2010 23:10

Child abusers don't 'hang' out at water parks.

They take their children there and 'act' like a normal family.

TheLadyEvenstar · 25/07/2010 23:12

Posh, as i said it wasnt a water park it was within a zoo and there were an awful lot of adults alone on the area. which is situated next to a coffee shop.

OP posts:
misdee · 25/07/2010 23:14

why are adults alone, with no kids a worry?

Poshwellies · 25/07/2010 23:15

Well, I'll place my money on childless adults not being interested in children frolicking in water and more interested in their coffee and a few minutes peace.
