to make a big fuss so I get induced TODAY?

40+1 with DC5 (DC2 stillborn). Trying for a VBAC, been told baby is on the large size, in an excellent position, am 3cm dilated (for the last week!) and partly effaced. Have had 3 sweeps now!

Midwife reckons all I will need is my water's breaking (they can't do much more to induce me anyway as VBAC). She was happy for me to go in immediately but hospital will not do anything until I have seen consultant next week. When I last saw consultant 2 weeks ago, he said that he was confident that the 1st sweep he had done would mean start me off so would not be seeing me again .

Now I am not just being impatient, I had a stillbirth at 31 weeks in 2001 where the problem was not picked up until 30 weeks (even though I had all the normal scans and even an amnio due to the baby having club foot which was clear) and I will not believe this baby is OK until it's born. It was a dreadful experience as I had to carry her for a week knowing that she would die as soon as the cord was cut so by giving birth to her, I would be killing her .

I have had twins since then but that pregnancy was carefully managed (different hospital) and I had an ELCS at 37 weeks. With this pregnancy they will not do an ELCS until 41 weeks which is why I hoped to VBAC before then!

Now I am older, I worry there is more opportunity for things to go wrong and am extremely stressed about it and cannot cope with anything including my other 3 DCs! Another week seems like a lifetime especially as they are off school now and DH will be at work up until the birth.

I was intending to call the labour ward today to ask if they can monitor me as I am bit concerned about the baby's movements anyway and when I get there, ask if they can do anything for me (cry and make a fuss as well) and hope they take pity. AIBU?

Yanbu

go for it, tell them what you want

good luck!

AdoraBelleDearhart · 23/07/2010 10:56

Yanbu, I had a 2 week niggly start of labour no sleep ect. went to hospital to have movements checked and nagged so much the induced me the next day.
Good luck hope it goes well for you.

addictedishavingagirl · 23/07/2010 10:56

YANBU, go and make a fuss

strumel · 23/07/2010 10:59

I think given your history yanbu.

Tell them you are becoming really anxious given your history and would like to be induced.

Good luck.

MrsGangly · 23/07/2010 12:10

Goodness, I can't imagine how anxious you must be. If you are worried, do go and see someone to be checked out and to discuss all this with them.

siilk · 23/07/2010 12:18

I think you are being more than reasonable given your history. My second DS was stillborn last year and I am approching the end of another PG I would be sitting there until they did something!!!

BigMommaOfAlmost4 · 23/07/2010 16:32

Just got back! Induction tomorrow - thank god! So time to get myself mentally prepared tonight. Sods law of course will dictate that I will go into labour naturally tonight . DH starts 2 weeks paternity leave as of tomorrow (has been off today as well) YIPPEE!

Thanks all. Consultant did not think IWBU either and completely agreed . Mind you, I did feel rather pathetic and embarrassed as I just could not stop bloody crying!!

Great news!

I hope you can have a restful night tonight ready for tomorrow and that you have an easy labour.

MrsTittleMouse · 23/07/2010 16:37

I read the title of this thread and was all set to tell you that YABU - until I read your post. Great news that you will be induced tomorrow.

fernie3 · 23/07/2010 16:38

yay! good luck!

YetAnotherIssue · 23/07/2010 16:39

Tears always work when trying to get them to induce. I spent most of my time in hospital and at 38 weeks I asked the nurse if I could speak to the doc. She said,"No, he is too busy to be speaking to anyone!". I should have yelled that I was paying her bloody wages but the waterworks came first and boy did they work!

Good lck, wish it was me bringing a buncle of joy home!

LaDiDaDi · 23/07/2010 16:41

YwereANBU!!

Pleased that you got your induction sorted, now come back here (on Sunday) with a lovely birth story .

CheeseandGherkins · 23/07/2010 16:42

That's great news, good luck and hope you go into labour tonight

deemented · 23/07/2010 16:44

YANBU at all.

I too have lost a child and my last pregnancy the midwife told me that because i had GD, if i got to 39 weeks then the baby would be stillborn. When you hear things like that, all rational thinking goes out the window.

Anyways, i hope things go well for you - good luck.

LostArt · 23/07/2010 16:46

I'm so glad you have it sorted. All the best for tomorrow. How exciting!

BigMommaOfAlmost4 · 26/07/2010 15:46

UPDATE: 9lb 7oz boy born on Saturday night. Very healthy and absolutely gorgeous if I say so myself! Very, very happy!!
