Am quite skint and would like to raise a bit more spending money for hols with kids - maybe about another £100 would make a difference. Dress has languished in the back of my wardrobe for last two years after I wore it as bridesmaid for my best friend, who paid for the dress (about £200).

I'm never going to wear it again - not even as an evening gown.

AIBU to sell it on ebay to make a few quid for our holiday? Friend would never know, but it feels dishonest.

YANBU
I would do it. I'm sure your friend didn't buy it thinking you would keep it forever.

AlistairSim · 22/07/2010 20:53

I think I would ask friend first.

Horntail · 22/07/2010 20:53

YANBU ; big clear out, big ebay clearance ! more holiday money

iwasyoungonce · 22/07/2010 20:54

YANBU. I bought the dresses for my bridemaids - no idea what they did with them, but would not care in the least if they sold them.

Flisspaps · 22/07/2010 20:56

I'd sell it. Much better that someone else gets to love it and you get to spend some money on your children. I'd much rather my BMs did this with their dresses than leave them gathering dust in a wardrobe!

chegggersplayspop · 22/07/2010 20:57

I am sure your friend would not mind, but agree it's a good idea to talk to her about it to make sure you don't fret about it. Seems very reasonable the way you explained it in your post!

AlistairSim · 22/07/2010 20:58

I just know that you'll be back on here in a couple of years completely freaking that the bride wants you to wear it for vow renewal or somesuch nonsense.

Mark my words, young lady.

Rockbird · 22/07/2010 20:58

I have no idea what my bridesmaid did with her dress and she's my SIL! Must ask her one day...

Jasonthunderpants · 22/07/2010 20:58

unless she is thinking of getting married again I would sell it

sonostanca · 22/07/2010 20:59

Thanks all! Alistair, if she does that I'll tell her the baby puked on it and I had to throw it out!

AlistairSim · 22/07/2010 21:04

May I remind you this is Mumsnet?

It will be a drama.

SloanyPony · 22/07/2010 21:06

Ooh see if she paid for it she might feel arsey about you making money from it. She might be happy for you to have it, but not for someone else to have it at your profit. She might be a bit "if you dont want it I'LL sell it...

Dogey ground.

NomDePlume · 22/07/2010 21:11

i'd be surprised if you got £100 for it if it was £200 to start with
