Grrrr, had put a cabin bed in the online basket on the M&S website, thought I'd wait till today (payday!) to place the order, only to find my shopping basket had been wiped as their sale started. No problem, went to add it back in only to find that the £475 bed with mattress is now a £449 bed without a mattress, and the mattresses start at £80. Called customer services who told me that some custoemrs didn't want the mattress that came with it so they reduced the price accordingly and you could choose your own - hmmm, "reduced price accordingly" - so where is this £26 mattress hiding then??? Looks more like a "we've increased the price by £54" to me!!

The customer services rep said that the offer had finished on the bed/mattress, to which I pointed out that nowhere on the catalogue page does it say it is a special offer or deal, it just says that it is part of their "outstanding value" range, which is the cheapest range they do in all departments.

Rant over. Pissed off now that I didn't order it yesterday, first time I've ever heard of prices increasing in a sale.

that's actually really f**king cheeky and not what I'd expect from Marks and Spencer. Just shows what a con some of these so called "sales" are. I would have expected customer services to have allowed you to pay yesterdays price as a matter of goodwill..........worth a letter of complaint to head office to see what they say i think.

Housemum · 22/07/2010 13:29

I've tried an e-mail to start with to see what response I get, then will follow with a letter to the actual Head Office if I get no joy (am assuming the e-mail will probably just go to a team with no actual resposibility)

Frustratingly, it still is the nicest bed of its type, so I will end up ordering it but not today!

(Meant to say, nicest of its type and price - I could get lovely ones from Aspace for twice the cost!!)

It doesn't say it's in the sale. It's a full price item.

Housemum · 22/07/2010 14:20

It's still gone up though, with no reason (there hasn't been a new catalogue out yet)

They are allowed to put their prices up at any time without reason.

If its not saying "sale price" then they are not doing anything wrong at all.

The sale is a separate issue.

The sale is kind of irrelevant unless its in the sale.

Having said that YANBU to just be generally irritated at the sods law of it...

littleducks · 22/07/2010 15:08

Can you not order by post through the catologue order form? If you did it quickly the should honour that price

ruddynorah · 22/07/2010 15:13

it hasn't gone up in the sale at all.

the product offered in the catalogue (bed with mattress) is no longer available.

new item, with new price (bed only) is available.

nowt shocking really.

they rarely offer beds with mattresses include as so many people like to choose their own mattress.

EmmaKateWH · 22/07/2010 16:38

don't buy it then!
