Stupid text falling out this evening..... my dad has an old tent that he lent to my sister 2 years ago, it has sat in her garage all that time never once used. I borrowed it about 6 weeks ago for our family holiday said how great it was and so she took it back to go camping with her kids - so far no bother.

She has then fallen in love with camping SO much she has rushed out and bought them a 2nd hand tent, which they have used. I needed my dad's tent for this weekend as we are going away with the kids again and also my DH had already asked to have my dad's tent for a trip he is taking with his friends next weekend. All of which was booked weeks ago, so I have aranged to drive the 70 mile round trip to pick up my dad's tent.

Now though she is texting me this evening that she needs dad's tent back as her DH has promised it to some-one he works with for next week - and can I drop it back to her on Mon ?

Er.... she has her own tent now so why can't they lend out that one ? Why do I have to now embark on another 70+ mile round trip just because her DH has offered to lend out a tent that isn't their's?

AIBU?

Sorry all very petty but it has really narked me.

Yanbu!!

PaintingTheFence · 21/07/2010 22:17

YANBU but why don't you ask her?

SmellsLikeTeenSweat · 21/07/2010 22:17

Blimey, if I were you I'd buy my own flipping tent. They are cheap enough - Tesco have big discounts on all their camping stuff atm.

TimothyTigerTuppennyTail · 21/07/2010 22:18

If it's not actually hers she should come and collect it if she needs it.

Alambil · 21/07/2010 22:19

you could buy a tent for the cost of the 140 miles of petrol you need!

I'd just say sorry but no!

funnysinthegarden · 21/07/2010 22:23

aye, as other have said, buy yourself a tent. We just bought a HUGE 8 man tent for about 150 notes.

scurryfunge · 21/07/2010 22:26

Buy a tent your self. Go Outdoors are selling them so cheaply at the moment.....probably less than the fuel cost to your dad's and back.

EightiesChick · 21/07/2010 22:26

Bad I know but I would agree and then come Monday find that one of the kids is ill so you can't make the trip - but of course if she can come and pick it up she's welcome to... or perhaps this person could borrow your sister's tent this time?

EightiesChick · 21/07/2010 22:27

Though, as the others have said, you may as well buy one as drive all that way to pick up what you've said is an 'old' tent.

pippylongstockings · 21/07/2010 22:29

The tent is nothing special it's a 2 bed 4 berth tent -couldn't tell you much more sorry.

The point for me is we really can't afford to buy a new tent £150 quid to us is alot of money - she can afford it and has! I have said we will pick up my dad's tent as we want to borrow it.

I have said to her that we can't get it back to her for monday and could she not lend out hers - but she has said they might need it if the weather is nice for themselves - er well let down the random bloke at your husbands work then......

For the cost of the trips your making you could buy your own!

Poshwellies · 21/07/2010 22:30

Pippy- GET ON EBAY! We bought a brand new (used once and is spotless) 5 man tent for £45.Sadly not got around to using it yet but still,it's waiting there and all ours.

MrsRhettButler · 21/07/2010 23:12

is your car a nought point nothing litre?

it must be costing you ^something to drive that far?

but yanbu she should pick it up herself

JaynieB · 21/07/2010 23:14

Pippy - where do you live? I've a nice 2nd hand tent for sale...

tokyonambu · 21/07/2010 23:27

Needed new poles for a 4 man Coleman that had a fight with a gale. Bought an immaculate new one, missing only a couple of pegs, for £35 on EBay plus a twenty mile round trip to fetch it. Would have been perhaps £50 shipped. Cheaper that the petrol, never mind the wear and tear, of the journey you're planning.

rubbersoul · 22/07/2010 10:51

Say you're keeping your dad's tent- if she wants to lend one out she can give her own. It's your dad's tent which you use with your family so srely she has no right to go lending it out?

MrsC2010 · 22/07/2010 10:54

Just say no! Now she has her own tell you're you'll play guardian for your dad's as you could use it. You could even make out you're saving her garage space.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 22/07/2010 11:03

You arranged with your dad to borrow it, so it's tough luck for her!

Morloth · 22/07/2010 11:23

You can get a new tent of that size and bigger for less than 50 quid on Amazon, cheaper than the petrol...
