To expect a school report within two weeks of the end of term

Tomorrow my DC will have been off school for 2 weeks for their summer break. As yet there has been no school report forthcoming for either of them. DD1's teacher said on the last day of term that she had done them but obviously what has happened is that the headmaster hadn't got round to writing his bit and here we are two weeks on with no report.

I phoned the school to ask and got fobbed off and eventually they fessed up that they ran out of time. Ummmm surely they had a pretty clear idea when the end of term was so could have factored that in?

There was no acknowledgement of the fact that they've denied us the opportunity of taking any potential queries up with teachers and they're also giving us less time to help the children in the hols if they need additional support with anything.

YANBU

I was shocked that at the idependant school where i now teach the head read the reports 10 MINUTES before they were due out, and 5 mins before they went (a chaotic going home time) we had to swap the bits that she had changed

us teachers have to make the deadline and you would think that the heads might keep to the deadline that they set too

Ours are due to be in the post by tomorrow - broke up a week ago last Friday.

DD's report was sent home a fortnight before the end of term, giving us chance to discuss contents, etc, should we wish with the teacher.

have never received one in holidays.

Still waiting here ... how about you Pennies ?

LIZS · 23/07/2010 13:24

So today we've had one out of the two .... apparently head is still working on them and he goes on holiday at the weekend.

Maybe because we're in Scotland it's different, but we get reports twice a year, in November and May - two weeks before Parents evenings so that we are able to discuss any issues raised. Seems mad not to get reports until after holidays have started. What's the point of that?

LIZS · 23/07/2010 18:56

no I think we're the exception . Have had 2 interim reports so far this year but it is so annoying, probably for the teachers as much as us, that the final one gets so delayed for head's commnets.
