to be annoyed with the woman in the supermarket

who was apparently annoyed with me because I was taking far too long to get to the checkout - she tried to race me to it (IMO) not realising that DP was already stood in it and took the trolley off me just before I got there.

She looked me up and down and said something under her breath to which I said "did you want to say something about me?" and she huffed off.

I was barely managing to walk around the supermarket by supporting myself on the trolley as I'd hurt my hip.

Argh.

She may, in fairness, have thought dp was 'holding' your place in the queue. This infuriates people in supermarkets.

mumto2andnomore · 20/07/2010 16:29

Sorry you've hurt your hip but to be honest I would be a bit annoyed too, I don't think your DP should have been holding your place for you. Its a bit like people who stand in car parking spaces to reserve them, thats wrong too.

Dropdeadfred · 20/07/2010 16:32

Supermarket queues are terrible...why wasn't your dp with you? if he was holding a place with no shopping himself i would be annoyed too

nickschick · 20/07/2010 16:33

Oh god this really pisses me off - im sorry youve hurt your hip but its not fair to other customers.

coventgarden · 20/07/2010 16:33

YABU.

Holding a place is annoying at busy times, you were clearly looking for a fight by saying that to her.

Chill out a bit, you seem to be getting annoyed about a lot of things.

NarkyPuffin · 20/07/2010 16:33

Give DS a tin to hold as well. Problem solved.

LadySanders · 20/07/2010 16:34

i recently pulled up my trolley behind a man in front holding one or two items. as i started to unload my trolley, his friend appeared with a fully loaded trolley and pushed in front of me as apparently the bloke had been 'saving' the space. it was pretty bloody infuriating and i think i called them selfish gits or something similar, at which point a nice checkout lady opened a checkout especially for me...

upahill · 20/07/2010 16:38

If this is true then yes you are.

If you are that bad you should have stayed in the cafe/ car/home/ wherever and got DP doing the shopping.

And you were spoiling for a fight by your comment. We all think narky thoughts at time.

AuntieMaggie · 20/07/2010 16:38

He was about 5 steps in front of me and I got there before her.

I know covent - thought I'd air them on here to try and get rid!

Wasn't looking for a fight but was sure she called me fat as part of her muttering!

Oh my goodness, I have never heard of that happening - someone holding a place in a supermarket check-out queue...

If I'd approached a check-out and then someone behind me with a full trolley told me to get back because their place was being held, well - that is such bad form.

I'm sorry you've hurt your hip. But I don't see how that excludes you from the usual social niceties. YABU.

upahill · 20/07/2010 16:41

HA your hip can't be that sore if you can sprint to the checkout to make a point of beating them!

swanandduck · 20/07/2010 16:42

Did she have a trolley as well?
It is very annoying if you have a couple of things and arrive at a checkout neck and neck with someone with a trolley piled high and they don't have the grace to let you go ahead.

AuntieMaggie · 20/07/2010 16:42

I wasn't sprinting and didn't even realise she had been heading that way til she almost crashed into me.

And I wasn't behind her I was in front.

Had she got there before me I would've told DP to get out the way!

HecateQueenOfWitches · 20/07/2010 16:43

I think it was a bit off of you to queue jump. If you hadn't finished shopping then it wasn't your turn! It wasn't right of you to skip past other people with your trolley.

If you had finished, and had forgotten one item and gone back to get it while your husband was unloading the rest of the shopping from the trolley, then that's different. But to have him standing there, then you walk up with the trolley - sorry, but that's out of order.

however, if you and your partner were walking to the checkout together and he just got there first because you're slower, then she arrived next and then you - you are not being unreasonable because you were heading to the checkout together.

all very complicated, these Queue Rules.

mayorquimby · 20/07/2010 16:44

yabu
saving a place in the qeue
worse.than.hitler.

AuntieMaggie · 20/07/2010 16:44

Yes she had a bigger trolley than me.

And DP do the shopping - ha ha ha... besides I had to pay for it and I'm not letting him have my PIN!

HecateQueenOfWitches · 20/07/2010 16:44

Ah, x-post.

YANBU, because he wasn't saving you a place, you were walking together and he just got there first.

swanandduck · 20/07/2010 16:45

Then she sounds like she was just being a narky cow.

AuntieMaggie · 20/07/2010 16:46

The third Hectate - he always walks faster than me - though I got there just before she did.

And he wanted me to go shopping on my own despite bad hip because it was his birthday well what did he expect to eat then...

Something similar happened to me about a month ago and the woman was so irate her actual words to me were, "I'm going to fucking smash you."

Mam2Be · 20/07/2010 16:55

Woah...wouldn't like to cross any of you in the supermarket!!
