to think the Hanger Lane Gyratory system is not the worst junction in Britain?

Apparently it is. This is the list. Imo Marble Arch is worse. Hanger Lane is pretty easy - just follow the signs. Never understood the fuss about it.

I don't really have any problems but this could just be practice I drive through there at least 5 times a week.

Driving into City Centre including Marble Arch, much much worse, which is why I never do it, it is hair raising.

samsonara · 19/07/2010 20:41

I've driven all but one of those and they are fine. I have learnt to drive in central London so I suppose nothing gets worse, but I have not driven the magic roundabout in Swindon, I think that would be a worry!

valleyqueen · 19/07/2010 20:41

Elephant and castle gets my vote. Horrible place to drive.

MrsBadger · 19/07/2010 20:42

magic roundabout much worse
feels like everyone has right of way except you

SpawnChorus · 19/07/2010 20:43

OMG I love the term "gyratory system". Nothing can be that bad with such a marvellous name.

flibbertigibbert · 19/07/2010 21:25

Hanger Lane is not as bad as Marble Arch or Elephant, both of which are terrifying for a learner such as myself!

porcamiseria · 19/07/2010 21:27

hyde park corner is worse
i am a shit driver but even I can manage hanger lane

valleyqueen · 19/07/2010 21:47

They take learners on to the Elephant? Would of put me off driving for life I think.

innerstrength · 19/07/2010 21:48

I just like the name of it

deaddei · 19/07/2010 21:48

I struggle with the Scilly Isles near Esher.
Always get in the wrong lane and have to go round again.

AllarmBells · 19/07/2010 22:37

Hanger Lane is hell.
Try coming out of that Holiday Inn in order to go East on the A4. Have to cross 5 lanes between one traffic light stopping and the other starting. I used to do it regularly and it put years on me.

Not too keen on the Chiswick Roundabout either.

UniS · 19/07/2010 22:41

Hnager lane is def NOT teh worst. Used to live V close to it and have cycled round it more than driven. Occasionally ( in car with less confident driver)one needs to take 2 turns round it to sort out getting into the right lane.

AnyFuleKno · 19/07/2010 22:42

Not a word about the Leeds Ring Road I notice. Shome mishtake shurely?

ivykaty44 · 19/07/2010 22:43

sorry but that is pants - it has a motorway exit - for goodness sake even if you get in the worng lane you can still come backonto the m5 going north if you tryed to go to wales - there is an escape route back to the m5 to go norht. Going south is a doddle you just move to the middle lane and sit with all the middle lane motorists or overtake

thats barmy to have it on alist - its easy peasey

suppose it is the mail though

I have done hanger lane and the elephant and not bad for either, but I don't have to do them on a reguar basis

starkadder · 19/07/2010 22:48

I grew up minutes from Hanger Lane. Once ended up there on my bike, by mistake, trying to get home from my first job (aged 15 at a local pharmacy). That was scary.

Anyway, since then, I have married DH from Devon, and he assures me that Penn Inn is officially the worst traffic junction in the UK.

starkadder · 19/07/2010 22:50

PS I also love the term Gyratory System

scanty · 19/07/2010 22:52

magic roundabout, Swindon is easy peasy after the first few goes!

bibbitybobbityhat · 19/07/2010 22:56

Hyde Park Corner can be a little nippy for the inexperienced.

xstitch · 19/07/2010 22:56

I was scared to drive on spaghetti junction until I actually drove on it and realised it wasn't that bad.

Still hate the cathedral junction on the M8. It is on the fast lane.

MangoTango · 19/07/2010 23:03

For it to have been a fair poll, they would have had to only allow people to vote if they had driven on every single road intersection in Britain!

greenlotus · 19/07/2010 23:04

I love this site it has clearly been lovingly put together by highway anoraks and includes my personal least favourite, Grove Farm Triangle in Leicester.

Official explanation of the problems of Hanger Lane here

singsinthebath · 19/07/2010 23:25

I LOVE the Swindon magic roundabout. So many different ways to get across.

singsinthebath · 19/07/2010 23:27

do you go to the left - or the right

valleyqueen · 19/07/2010 23:34

Omg I would fall apart on that round about. Give me thr elephant any day.

scanty · 20/07/2010 00:30

My car broke down on the magic roundabout at rush hour when when I was pregnant. Had to get out and push it off! LOL!
