To not be interested in dinner parties?

Don't get me wrong- I do love to cook for others and I love others to cook for me but I am so not gutted not to be invited to any dinner parties.
I have not been excluded from any such gatherings and i am not aware if anyone around me is holding such affairs but dinner parties are what sensible middle class parents do isn't it?
I'd rather go to the pub/and or club or festival and get drunk.
I am going to tea with my best mate next week but it's very informal and I'm the only guest invited along with dd.

I do like going to our local restaraunts for a bite to eat though!

I have friends round for meals often. And we go round to theirs for meals often. But I would never knowingly call it a dinner party - there's something about the term that makes me think "Cordon Bleu" and over-thought poncery. Plus, you have to do a starter for a dinner party and I can never be arsed to do a starter.

We have close friends round for tea, as a family.

We used to sometimes share a meal with our pre-children lodgers.

I dread the thought of ever being invited to a dinner party.

I don't do dinner parties. I just have people round for something to eat. I try to make a good meal such as shepher's pie, with salad and good bread, and some easy dessert.

to me, its about enjoying time with people, not trying to impress them with a mastershef virtuoso.

Bloody hate them.

I don't want to sit round a table, eating organic things and discussing schools.

I want to sit in a pub, talk shit and drink lots of beer.

But no one wants to do that.

When does cooking for friends become a 'dinner party'?

We have friends round for a meal and eat in the dining-room, because that is where the table is.

I usually do 3 courses, because I'm a pig.

I decorate the table with flowers/candles/napkins etc and use nice glasses, because the table is used for everything (painting, glueing etc) and is a bit of a mess and because I have got nice crockery and glasses in the cupboards.

Am I unknowingly hosting dinner parties?

We have what i guess you could call dinner parties, generally our friends come over for food and usually they end in much drunkeness and laughing (or they did pre-DD!) Think the term dinner party covers a wide spectrum of food-related gatherings! IME, the food doesn't have to be anything amazing although sometimes DH pushes the boat out and does some 'glory clooking'!

I believe I hold dinner parties.

Several mates turn up. Food is served. Wine is drunk. Cigs are smoked. What's not to like?

If it helps, the starter is always picky stuff on the table, and the pudding is often haribo.

Our are raucous affairs that involve dinner (natch), copious wine, cognac, music, and usually some drunken dancing come 3AM. And filthy hangovers the next day.

What's not to like?
