to expect the postmen and delivery people to knock on my door

The Ninja delivery man has been and gone, the one who creeps up to my front dooor like a thief in the night and silently deposits
a parcel by my front door and tiptoes away again without knocking or ringing the bell.

I got the milk in at 8am today at 8.30 OH also went out the front and there was a blooming parcel with about £100 worth of goods in it, luckily we live in a quite road in a low crime area, but its not the first time it has happened, I was only in the dining room and would have heard the bell or door knocker.

I am going to ring the company and give them hell.

YANBU and I am horrified to think that they would do that. Surely they need to get something signed?

Flisspaps · 17/07/2010 10:53

FVM not necessarily - I once found a Next package had been slung over the back gate, it must have been there for days in the rain. Not even a card through the door to say they'd been.

No yanbu - it keeps happening to us and I am so cross about it. We had £300 worth of garden furniture left in our front garden in full view of everyone. And parcels are regularly left on the doorstep. They don't even bother to sling over fence. They ring the bell and quick as a flash disappear.

I live on a busy main road and often get parcels left on my doorstep!! Very luckily nothing has ever been taken but I regularly get parcels which require a signature left on the doorstep!

Not sure whether I am happy or not about this but I had a parcel delivered this morning. Postlady knocked, I was hurriedly putting my dressing gown on (having a sneaky lie in) then looked out of the window to see her getitng back in the van. I race down the stairs thinking she'd done a knock and run leaving one of those flamin cards your have to take to the sorting office but no... she had in fact opened my front door (I know, I know) and put the parcel in the hall.

Not sure if I am glad my parcel was in the dry and at least I dont have to go to the sorting office or a bit annoyed about her oening my front door. I guess the first, and I should probably tell DH to lock up behind him when he goes to work if I'm that bothered!

I was in one day a couple of weeks ago and the postman knocked with a parcel but I was literally just getting out of the bath so couldn't get to the door in time. He put a note through the door saying he had left it in the back garden under a chair. It did save me a trip but I was surprised he's let himself in round the back- I could have been in any state of undress!

The people that deliver Next Parcels are annoying. I have had one put in my bin (recyclin one, so not really gross, but still!) and one put under my car.

TarheelMama · 18/07/2010 10:15

The people who deliver Kiddicare parcels (which have to be signed for) are pretty bad. They have went to my neighbours to have them sign, left the parcel with the neighbour and then not bothered putting a slip through my door to tell me it's been left at house X. Then my neighbours bring it round and probably think I'm a lazy cow for not bothering to come knock on their door for it.

Apparently Royal Mail policy is that they are supposed to ring the bell and deliver it to you properly. I found this out last week when after several months of parcels being left by the front door my order of 50 ladybirds (organic pest control) got left in blazing sunshine for several hours and consequently all died so I had to ring the sorting office to make sure the same thing didn't happen with the replacements. Still doesn't beat the idiot courier who left a box clearly labled "microwave" in the back garden when it was pouring with rain.

Forgot the important point, YANBU, he's breaking the rules!
