to not want a sweep in my house

I am supposed to be having a sweep at 39 weeks and they couldnt fit me in at the hospital OR at the doctors so they are sending a community midwife to the house to do it. My MIL would be looking after my children if I went to the hopsital or doctor to have it but not sure if she will agree to come to the house for this and even so I would feel a little wierd about having it done with my MIL and my three chidlren in the next room. The hosital DID have an appointment at 38 weeks 4 days but aparently it has to be exactly 39 weeks as this is what it says on the notes!. I am thinking of cancelling the whole thing, I have an appointment for induction at 40 weeks anyway and with three children and three sweeps non ehave ever worked so its not as though it would make a huge difference.

Am I just being oversensitive about this!!

I think you're being a wee bit over-sensitive tbh

As long as you make sure no-one will walk in while it happens, it does only take a minute, and might jus get things started for you

It worked for me, desperate at 38 +6 - waers broke the next morning

I had terrible SPD though so frankly would've had a sweep in the checkout queue at Asda

but you need to do whatever you feel comforable with, it's your foof.

Oh, I thought you meant chimney sweep. Although that is what DP's gran calls gynaecologists, so not that inaccurate.

When you're overdue and you're at the end of your tether, you don't care where it's done. But if, as you say, you don't particularly want one as you don't think it'll do anything, you will be looking for other reasons to refuse, hence the location anxiety. Just remember - They can't make you do anything you're not comfortable with. If you don't want a sweep, cancel.

well asomeone who had a sweep on my living room floor with ds1 sat on my chest I think you're worrying about nothing. Just tell mil to make sure everyone stays out. Shes going to know about having babies so won't be surprised

WHy do you need a sweep at 39 weeks anyway ? You're not even overdue - what's the point? Is there another reason like SPD you're keen to get things going?

If you're not fussed, don't think it will work anyway and feel awkward, cancel it.

If you don't want it, then don't have it. They can't make you, and if they've not worked in previous pregnancies then there's nothing to say it will this time.

Would you feel better if MIL could take the children out, even if it's just for a walk around the block or to the shop?

They are worried about my blood pressure so dont want me to go overdue, my last two were induced at 36 and 37 weeks (first one came at 41 on her own). They are inducing on due date if I get that far and want to try the sweep at 39 weeks to see if that starts things off.

I really dont fancy the idea for some reason I cant explain, I think Tidey might be right I am thinking of any excuse!

I know what you mean. The midwife offered to come and do a sweep at home if I went overdue (I never got that far in the end!) But I said I'd rather go to the surgery.

It's clinical. I wanted to have it at the clinic! The thought of doing it in my bedroom just didn't feel right!

Only you can decide - but how about the idea of getting MIL to take the children out? Or if the community midwife's free to see you could she book a room at the doctor's surgery?

I thought it was about a woman who didn't want a sooty man in her house too!

katiestar I am still confused, I never encountered this "sweep" thing when I was having DD.

I certainly did a double take when I read the OP and she said that the community midwife was going to do it. Versatile lady!!

YABU, much better in your own home imo.

If you are really unhappy about it then just tell your mw, I am sure they will try to accomodate you elsewhere.
