He does love milk...and recently (it's very hot here) he is asking for more and more and more. He has water at mealtimes but milk when he wakes up in the morning, after his nap, and at bedtime. He used to have 3 cups per day but now he asks for a 2nd cup in the morning and after nap - so about 5 (big!) cups of milk a day.

If we try giving him water instead, he gets v upset indeed - although happily drinks water at mealtimes and when we're out and about.

He has UHT full fat milk. Fresh non UHT milk difficult to get here.

I think it's OK (he's only 2, and he's not too fat or anything) but DH is worried for some reason.

Reassurance?? Thanks MN...

does he eat plenty of food too? I can only see it would be a problem if milk is replacing his solid food.

Yes, he eats loads...and runs around loads...

Wow that's a fair bit of milk!

I don't think it's a problem but it could impact on his appetite as milk is virtually a food. If that isn't happening then I would say not to worry too much, better that he's hydrated.

not a problem then I would't have thought. have a word with your HV if you're worried though.

I met a little boy today who barely ate and lived on milk (almost 2)

As long as your DS is having plenty of food, don't worry
