...to want to clout this pharmacist?

I am currently stricken with thrush so I popped along to local chemist to buy a canesten pessary. I've finished a course of anti-b's a few days ago and I am prone to thrush anyway.

Chap asked me if I'd had thrush in last six months and I replied that I didn't think so and held a fiver out to buy said canesten thingy. Told me he couldn't sell me a pessary as I couldn't prove that I'd been thrush free for last 6 months- not sure how I'd do that other that taking a dated photo everyday of me fan or showing him in person.

I explained about anti biotics, me being experienced sensible 46 yr old etc etc
So I says "can I have some cream instead then"? and again he refused and said I would have to see my doctor. Replied that I needed pessary now and any appointment made now will be for next mid week.

Meanwhile shop fills up with men who all seem agog at pharmacist emphasising thrush every ten seconds.

Ended up with

me are you going to sell me it then?
him: no!

Cue me storming out, trying not to scratch my crotch.

Rang dh , explained and he went to chemist near office, bought one and was out in ten seconds with no questions etc.

I want very badly to get the bloody pessary, bang on the chemist window and wave it at him. May pour some cottage cheese over my flies just to be extra disgusting!

I'd complain. He sounds like an arse.

biddysmama · 14/07/2010 14:33

i feel the same way about gaviscon... the chemist wont sell it to me (35 weeks pregnant) and tells me to see my dr, i have to wait ages for an appointment and end up sitting there for at least an hour in the waiting room for the dr to just print it off and for some reason i cant just get it on repeat perscritption.... so i send dp for it instead

BaggedandTagged · 14/07/2010 14:34

It's not really his fault. It's the terms of the over the counter license for the product. They have to ask the question and if you say yes, then they cant sell it to you. It's because people might misdiagnose themselves and keep retreating with the wrong product.

Next time, just say no.

mosschops30 · 14/07/2010 14:35

I usually find that the best tactic is lying

have you taken these before - yes
have you had thrush in last 6 months - no
etc etc

ZZZenAgain · 14/07/2010 14:36

was your dh asked the 6month question?

BaggedandTagged · 14/07/2010 14:36

On another note, my dad is a pharmacist and had someone come in and complain that the Caneston pessaries weren't working. Turned out she'd been eating them.

I wonder what she used the applicator for.

porcamiseria · 14/07/2010 14:48

what a fucking ARSE WIPE!!!!

ugh , mine gave me the whole shebang
even tho I am pregnant

TWAT!

annoyed for you....

biddys, thats bullshit too. they would not give me the extra strong gaviscon but they would the milder

its all bullshit as you can get it off the shelf anyway

DuelingFanjo · 14/07/2010 14:49

I've had this happen. You can go to some supermarkets and buy it from the shelves without even having to speak to the pharmacist

biddysmama · 14/07/2010 14:49

ive tried a few times, apparetly they can lose their license.......

OsbegaEthewulf · 14/07/2010 14:52

I look all shifty when I lie; need more practise

OP posts:
porcamiseria · 14/07/2010 14:53

biddy just go to tesco, go to shelf, and put in trolley! simple. noone can keep a pregnant lady from their gaviscon !!!!

diggingintheribs · 14/07/2010 14:53

pharmicist refused to sell me piles cream because i'm pregnant - says i need to see the gp

so i see my lovely GP who tells me the over the counter ones are fine and the pharmacist should have sold it to me. So I had to wait 3 days for appointment as they got worse!!!

The first thing he said though was 'Was it 'insert big high street chain here'?' it was - he told me to go the local independent pharmacy as he has had continuing problems with them including having to call them to refer them to the page number in their book and then explain wat it said as they didn't understand!!

ledkr · 14/07/2010 15:09

They can be twats. Dh has a friend whos dw has recently returned to work after raising the kids and is taking pharmacy exams. You dare not mention anything to do with medicine as she launches into a shpeel. The other day was advising me re ibruprofen...wouldnt mind but I AM A NURSE.
Other thing is that one day i went to boots to but some canesten for my hamster as my vet had told me to.I may need to point out at this time that may hamster was not suffering from vaginal thrush merely a slight skin infection. When asked is it for you(what business is it of theirs) i koked that it was for the hamster que lots of mumbling behind hands and eyeing of me as if i was a terror suspect before telling me i can not have it. I pointed out that i also occasionally use it so it would come in handy but they stuck to their little guns and refused it. I left leaving my basket of expensive toiletries on the counter and bought it in sainsburys. Morons

MrsSnaplegs · 14/07/2010 15:13

ledkr ROFPMSL at the thought of you trying to explain it was for your hamster

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 14/07/2010 15:15

My parents are Drs and have a low opinion of busybody pharmacists.

porcamiseria · 14/07/2010 15:16

poor hamster, I thunk you are preserving its modesty are you not!!!!!

I think its SO silly, and a waste of time and NHS money to have people see their doctors for thrush and hearburn

I get it you can't go in and say "hey I'm stressed" and they give you temazepam. unfortunately...

however the thought of waiting bloody days to see someone for minor ailments, so silly

ledkr · 14/07/2010 15:49

shall we move on to the phamacists cousin....the Drs receptionist.Mine are the bloody gustapo. Asked for my wee to be tested for uti the other day as i was drooping a sample in for another test all they need to do is get Dr to add "uti?" to the form. Hardly difficult sweetie. Receptionist refused point blank to ask her despite me being preggers resulting inme having to go to out of hours over weekend for a UTI at great cost to the nhs.Had to ask myself the question whoes urine was it?
And as for the hamster i did indeed try to make things less embarrasing for her as we had recently discovered that she had been living a lie as a fella and was in fact a laydeee I felt so guilty for the years she had spent in horrible trousers and shirts when she was longing for the feel of silk and lace.

ledkr · 14/07/2010 15:49

drooping a sample hahaha

RuthieCohen · 14/07/2010 17:10

YANBU - my pharmacist practically accused me of being a junkie last week for asking for a packet of Nurofen Plus

ledkr - poor your hamster and her identity crisis.

nickelbabe · 14/07/2010 17:18

poor hamster.

i have similar problems with my hens- i've been known to get human medicines for them many times.

have a story though - ex's mum went into boots to buy some aspirin as she was going on a long haul flight and her doctor had told her in the past to take half an aspirin before she set off (or something, can't remember the details). they asked her what she wanted it for and they refused her. so she explained that Dr soandso had recommended it. no, it wasn't listed on the packet as a reason for taking it. then the pharmacist read out the list of reasons!
ex's mum was forced to leave, but went back half an hour later, same lady, same script, told her she had a headache and was allowed to buy them.

she was not happy.

Alouiseg · 14/07/2010 17:19

The doctors I know are fond of telling me that pharmacists are often failed Drs.

No disrespect to nice nonpowercrazed pharmacists.

Rofl at the poor hamster.

cornsilky · 14/07/2010 17:20

They all do that. I just lie.

4madboys · 14/07/2010 17:23

def not being unreasonable, they get funny about all sorts of stuff.

a while ago i was ill as were the boys, so i needed to buy, paracetamol for myself, under 6 calpol for the two little ones and over 6yrs calpol for the elder two boys. they wouldnt let me buy them as it was too many paracetamol products.

ffs i had the kids with me, who were all full of cold it was obvious we NEEDED the products and who they were going to be used by, but nope they would not budge.

cornsilky · 14/07/2010 17:24

I think they must go stir crazy in their little room.
