In the park with DS today, saw 2 people with dogs off leads; one of them released her dogs from the leads underneath the sign that says "dogs should be kept on leads at all times"! FFS. DS is afraid of dogs (we are working on it, as I was too and really don't want him to be) and I think I should be able to take him to the park without worrying about dogs running around scaring him. (As it happened he wasn't too bothered as the dogs were sniffing around and not interested in anyone, but that's not the point.)
I know I'll end up being flamed by the dog-lovers among us, but to be fair, there are signs up that state dogs should be on their leads in the park.
I was all for emailing the council to complain earlier but that would BU wouldn't it?

Is there a diagram? Invading the pitch sounds fun.

What's that got to do with dogs being kept on leads when they're meant to be, BTP?

Oh, right. Think the pitch was invaded pages ago, tbh.

5foot did ask a good question about whether dog owners who would disregard a sign in a park would disregard one near livestock, though...

BTP - Whether you think it's unreasonable or not, does not excuse ignoring an instruction in a public place. I'm sure some people think it's unreasonable that they have to switch off their phones in the cinema, not smoke in public places, not consume food in clothes shops etc. While most of us think it's a good idea.

So someone ignored a sign, nothing of any interest at all happened but still has resulted in over 100 posts? Not hysterical at all. No No.

No dogs are full predictable all the time, so I think even owners of really well behaved dogs should obey the signs. My well behaved tiny dachshund who had been trained to be confident around bigger dogs once took it into his head to viciously attack a St. Bernard that sniffed his bum - sank his teeth deep into his nose. St. Bernard scarpered off in shock at great speed and would have sent any toddler or frail person he came across flying. Not in park but my dog on lead, St Bernard lying on pavement outside his house until we came along...

It makes me so sad when children are afraid of dogs. Whenever I fell out with my parents from about age 4 upwards I'd go and sit in my father's guard dog's kennel with him for a cuddle, unconcerned that he was supposed to be guarding our scrapyard.

HowAnnoying, The OP opened up a larger debate about people ignoring signs in parks instructing them to keep their dogs on leads. This is a cause of real concern and worry for those of us who are afraid of dogs, or have children who are afraid of dogs or who are elderly and frail and don't want large dogs bounding around them.

Ruby

You really are invading the pitch now. Or deliberately missing the overarching point.

There is a sign in our park asking dog owner to keep their dogs on leads next to the ponds, as there have been quite a few ducks and swans killed by dogs. But no, the dogs are not kept on leads. Most of the walkers throw sticks in the water for the dogs to fetch. Especially annoying when all the small kids go there to feed the birds.

Selfish gits. They have the whole park to run around, and most of the lake to jump in, so why choose the one section of water that is signposted to let their dogs jump in?

It's a good job you posted, Howannoying- otherwise us on this thread would never have realised the futility of our existence. You do realise that you've posted here too, right? Does that mean you're hysterical?

In fairness Toughasold..... there are lots of posts about inconsiderate parking, badly behaved children and so on. This just happens to be one about annoying and inconsiderate dog owners. What's the problem?

The OP clearly states AIBU to think they should have kept the dogs on their leads; Not AIBU to hate dogs?
