In the park with DS today, saw 2 people with dogs off leads; one of them released her dogs from the leads underneath the sign that says "dogs should be kept on leads at all times"! FFS. DS is afraid of dogs (we are working on it, as I was too and really don't want him to be) and I think I should be able to take him to the park without worrying about dogs running around scaring him. (As it happened he wasn't too bothered as the dogs were sniffing around and not interested in anyone, but that's not the point.)
I know I'll end up being flamed by the dog-lovers among us, but to be fair, there are signs up that state dogs should be on their leads in the park.
I was all for emailing the council to complain earlier but that would BU wouldn't it?

I live in London and in many of the parks here it says to keep dogs on leads.

No-one does though and it really feels more like a judgement call than something that needs to be adhered to.

Park Keepers don't enforce it either.

I did better than that, I read all the posts. Clever me.

Yours was the one I took exception to.

I would email the council, they disregarded an enforceable notice, same as not picking up their beloved pets deposits.

alienbump · 14/07/2010 12:27

huh, that's right, just ignore my poor puppy, just like the mother of the child who did it... still not bitter though, no, not me.

tethersend · 14/07/2010 12:32

Here's a for him.

And a g&t cup of tea for you.

tethersend · 14/07/2010 12:32

ahh thank you, he is rather partial to a digestive. And it happened about three months ago so he's now had 2 weeks of being allowed back out into the real world and is loving it. Now I just need to work on my bellow of "MOVE AWAY FROM THE DOG" every time a child comes near him and we'll all be back to normal!

YANBU. I am afraid of dogs and I am fed up of ignorant dog owners ignoring signs and letting their dogs run all over the place. Yes, you might know your dog is fine and won't harm anyone, but other people (especially those who fear dogs or have had a bad experience with them) will feel freaked at the sight of a dog running up towards them, barking away. One idiot allowed his dog do this right beside the duck pond in our park, ds stepped back in fright and could have fallen into the water.

That's the point. People like you don't understand it. Do you also really not understand this fear some people have of heights/enclosed spaces/spiders and think they or their parents are ignorant too.
What an arrogant post.

I am not afraid of dogs but ds2 is petrified, the probable reason for that is he has been jumped on by dogs on plenty of occasions round here.

as per usual the normal response is the dog wont hurt him, why ds is screaming because he is scared.

imagine having an animal bounding towards you that is bigger than you.

of course you would be scared.

Why is asking people to obey a 'keep your dog on a lead in the park' sign insisting the whole world revolves around you.

You really, really don't understand, do you?

tethersend · 14/07/2010 13:30

Yeah, these selfish toddlers making the whole world revolve around their fear of animals that might bite them

swanandduck · 14/07/2010 13:32

Not to mention selfish pensioners on walking sticks afraid of being knocked over (as my Dad was by an ignorant dog owner in his local park).

swanandduck · 14/07/2010 13:33

Knocked over by the DOG I meant.

Tiredmumno1 · 14/07/2010 13:35

Ruby, if there is a sign that says they have to be on leads that should be adhered to.

and like someone mentioned earlier if you have them off the lead, its polite to put them back on if there are people near.

i would never let my children go and touch anyones dog ever.

and actually them other phobias have been shoved in our faces, i am sure there was a thing on tv about curing those sorts of phobias
